Review summary

All cruises have elements of fun and things you wish were better. This one was no different. We could choose to focus on the negatives or figure out how to have fun, and we chose the latter. A vacation is only as good as you make it yourself.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very smooth and very quick. We had the earliest time slot for check-in and had to wait for about 10 minutes to get on the boat, but it was so smooth.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Didn’t try any specialty restaurants. Who needs to when the main dining and buffets had such great food. The food in the Windjammer was even better than the dining room on some nights.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The pools and hot tubs were pretty crowded. In most places if you didn’t stake out a lounger first thing in the morning, it was very difficult to find two loungers together.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The ice skating show was the best show I have ever seen on a boat. The stage shows were just OK, hence only 4 stars.

Children's Programs

We didn’t bring children on this cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
By the end of the cruise, we felt like the bartenders and waiters were our best friends. They took time to get to know us, shared a lot of laughs with us, and made us feel at home. We only saw our room steward twice the whole cruise, so no real connection there.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was good. Sometimes there were clogged toilets or urinals, but that is to be expected with that number of people. Our biggest issue was the lack of places to just sit and relax. Almost all of the seating was at a bar or a restaurant. It was hard to find a place to sit and read a book or chat with our friends.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was narrow enough that you pretty much had to climb into bed from the end rather than the side. You could get to the side and climb in from there, but you had to do a trapeze act to get around the desk (on one side) or the couch (on the other). Try doing that in near dark after a couple of drinks in rough seas. The room was kept clean. Everything worked, even though some of the cabinet hardware was in disrepair. If I had brought a screwdriver I would have fixed it for them.

Ship tip

We didn’t have one of the cabins that had an interior view of the Promenade, but for those who do: Please remember that people on the Promenade can see in your window if you don’t close the curtains. If you don’t want to flash several hundred people, close your curtains.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
This is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been on. Little wind, smaller waves, good shade. The biggest disappointment was the amount of plastic in the water and rolling up on the beaches.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
It is a fantastic port with a lot of stuff to do. More than we had time to see. The one thing I didn’t like is that the shore excursions pick you up very close to the ship, but drop you off 15 minutes from the ship so that you are forced to walk through their shopping area.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S.V.I.

Disembarkation

It was well organized and efficient.
