This was a vacation trip - 12 days of getaway that was really nice. The Adventure of the Seas is a nice ship to do just that - getaway. Adding a day at Cococay on the way up the coast would have been a nice addition.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
New to me was receiving my cruise card at my room door; historically that occurred at check-in. All in all embarkation was a breeze.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We had very good service in the main dining room. In the main dining room the food was good and plentiful - though there were some odd food pairing choices and the variety of appetizers and deserts seemed a bit repetitive. The food at Chops was excellent, though the service was not as good as that we received in the main dining room. The Windjammer buffet had a wide variety of options, but the service in the seating area of that venue was lacking.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Lots of trivia options - maybe even too many and I'm really tired of the keychain thing. Bingo was disappointing, people are pressed to purchase electronic pads and then they have so many games available to them on those machines they may as well not be there but rather logged in from elsewhere because they are dependent upon the "dinging" of the machine rather than playing a card themselves. Also - there are 150 people in the room and your pots are $200???? Really???
Entertainment
4 out of 5
There were several stage shows that were very, very good. The classical guitar player was also very good as was the gentleman who entertained in the Schooner lounge at night.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Dining room waiter/assistant waiter = very good. The room steward was average - he met expectations with making the bed, emptying the garbage and cleaning the bathroom and he responded to requests in a reasonable amount of time, but why did I always have to ask for (1) bath mats, (2) Kleenex, (3) bar soap, (4) washcloths....?? He was okay, just not exceptional.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I really like the indoor promenade - climate controlled and always something happening there.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Very good size - one of the largest I've been on. Terribly hard bed...really painful for me - the steward tried to help by adding an extra pad (thanks for that), but it really didn't make a whole lot of difference. The cabin was clean. Some of the cabinetry is showing the wear and tear of repeated use and could be repaired or replaced; same with the in-cabin refrigerator.
Ship tip
Seats in the Solarium are at a premium, get there really early if you want one.
The docking area is a long way from the main part of town, which is unfortunate because when I traveled there on Holland America we were right in the middle of things. Spent the day at the aquarium with the dolphin experience - the animals were well cared for and the facility was well maintained. I really enjoyed the experience.
This was probably my 3rd or 4th visit to St. Thomas, so no shopping for me though there is a lot if that's your thing. Note that RC docks a long way from the main shopping area and you have to catch a transport to get there if you want to do that. We did catch a boat over to St. Johns for the National Park Tour which was okay - our driver was not particularly our cup of tea. The crew on the boat was interactive and engaged with the passengers and the trip was easy-peasy and pleasant.
