Victoria and Nanaimo were very welcoming communities to us.  The entertainment on board was wonderful.

OK Cruise by Musser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Loved the shows. Didn't think much of the food. Was told a certain price when friends signed us up for the cruise but then found out the price was twice as much after giving them our visa number. We were out of town at the time. Paid the same price for a 10 day cruise earlier.

Good, not great by theperry5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This was our 4th time cruising this itinerary, and 2nd overall cruise with Royal Caribbean. Overall, we had a wonderful time due in most part to the fact we were a group of seven adults and know how to have a great time. We had rooms on the 12th floor that adjoined and that couldnt of been better. Our balconies opened into each other and we just loved being up top close to the pools and bars, very cool. We went to the shows and loved them, we played mini golf, basketball, and shuffleboard. We explored our ports and enjoyed ourselves walking around town and hitting the Pubs and Grills, as well as talking to people and taking in the sights. The downside to this cruise was the food, or lack there of. The Buffet(Windjammer) was ok at best, good assortment that repeated itself and just wasnt that good. The Cafe on the 4th floor which was the only other "free" place to eat was always crowded and VERY limited selection, very. The other 2 places cost $25 @person or 35 @ person which doesnt make any sense and then there was Johnny Rockets, at $6.95 per person could of been ok but the service was the worst in the world, prompting me to walk out completely and in the middle of the meal, just down right awful. So try room service and if you could get them to answer the phone, they would send you what you ordered IF they were not to busy, which was told to us. They will also charge you if you happen to call them between midnight and 6am, go figure. So, yes, we had a great time, and yes, the shows were good, really good, and yes we had a great room which we paid for, but man, the service really sucked and the food was really bad and confusing. Will we go again, yes, but the last 3 times we were on Celebrity which at the time we thought was very average. Now, I will be glad to book with them. Royal Caribbean really needs to step it up or lose some business, and believe me, this was the sentiment of a lot of passengers.

Nice boat by crhoop

First time with Royal. The boat was great new and clean. Ports were low-key but for a four day getaway that's all you really want so it was relaxing.  Service with the exception of a few was good not great.  Food was okay but not great.  Not a bad experience I think we've just been spoiled on other trips.

WORST CRUISE EVER by BGates

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

I took my disabled cousin and I on this 4 day cruise for our 50th Birthdays. This was my first cruise with Royal Caribbean.  First the food in the buffet was a joke. Salad bar with no lettuce (we requested from 6 different food servers and no one seemed to understand us when we asked for lettuce.  Finally 6th person said no lettuce.  This was pretty much the case through the 4 days.  One day when shopping a table that had some souvenirs the 2 crew members made a smart comment to my cousin and then started laughing and making fun of her "disability".  I was appalled, I wanted to toss them off the boat!!  I complained to management at the customer service desk, nothing was done.  The food lines were long.  No accommodations for people who could not stand up to 30 minutes to be seated at their designated dining time.  I could go on and on, but we have sailed many times with Norwegian, this just confirms why I will never sail with anyone but Norwegian.  Far above the rest!!

Worst ship I've ever been ever been on. by rhj45

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Explorer of the Seas / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Food was not of great quality. Took over 2 hours to get served and eat. All show and events were at the same time as the meals. Buffet closed at 10 and most activities were over at 11. During the sing a long the person holding the event shut it down around 11 even though everyone was having a great time and the bar was doing a booming business. Best thing about the cruise was the ship stayed afloat!

Disappointing by Casualcruiser45

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Jewel / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We did a little one day cruise from Vancouver BC to Seattle WA.  It was supposed to leave at 5 PM.  We were looking froward to viewing the beautiful scenery but for whatever reason we didn't leave until about 7:20 PM.  By then it was getting cold and soon it got dark.  We asked a waiter what was holding us up and he said he thought someone had jumped of the boat at the dock.  We heard no sirens and there was nothing about it on the local news.  I don't buy that explanation.

Soon after we finally left the dock I tried to buy a round of drinks and was told my card would not work and I needed to go to deck 7 and see someone at the service desk.  There I was told that they needed my passport!?!?  I went to my room and retrieved my passport and returned to the desk.  A crew member took it and disappeared into a back room.  When he returned he handed back my passport and said, "Everything is Okay". No explanation was offered.  I demanded an answer and was told, "Sometimes the scan doesn't work". Well I watched the fellow at the check in desk scan it and give me my room number.  All in all a disappointing trip.

Fun for women's trip... by hannahsanchez

The 2 night cruise was definitely fun for a women's trip but that's about it. There was not much to do at all on ship. And went to the spa and got double charged and customer service was very hard to work with...

Thanks for all sever they are great.Yummy

Nice cruise overall by Kakalina

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This "repositioning" cruise was recommended by a friend, so we made this our first cruise on Holland America. The entertainment was outstanding--some of the best we have experienced on ANY line. And the staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient. The ship was clean, but is showing its age, and is in some need of repair and refurbishing. The veranda rooms are adequate, but they seem smaller than most on other lines. The food seemed pretty mundane. Beef dishes were very good, but other choices were pretty unimaginative. The layout for the Lido buffet was awkward, and downright risky when faced with numbers of people in walkers, scooters and wheelchairs--not laid out well. Even the recorded voice in the elevators sounded bored. (No kidding!) The cruise stops were interesting overall, but the quality of the shore excursions seemed to vary widely (WE lucked out, though). Overall, it was a pleasant cruise, with unbelievably smooth seas and good service. We did notice that "hand cleaning" was not emphasized (or supported very well) at all, which may have led to a HUGE number of people getting sick on the long trip.

WOW Panama Canal by GayleandFritz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Westerdam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This was an absolutely fabulous cruise.  We saw so much and had so much fun.  Excursions were great.  Food and service were outstanding.  Our room was perfect for seeing the shoreline all the way and absolutely the best seat in the house for seeing the Panama Canal.  Lectures, entertainment and ship activities were terrific.   Food was delicious with wonderful presentation.  Staff were spectacular.  We had a wonderful time and are so glad we went.  All of our expectations were met

Blast of Lifetime by karenknutson10

Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This being a first cruise for us both, we wanted to experience it all!  Although we couldn't do everything within our time frame we sure had a good time trying - there was so much to do!  We started off on the top outside deck with a delicious drink from the bar, it was a gorgeous warm September day and quite a few people were enjoying the pool, almost wished I'd brought my bathing suit!  Everyone was so friendly and happy.  The Crown Princess is a beautiful ship with all it's grandeur, it reminded us of The Titanic. The staff was very helpful and courteous in showing us to our room or answering any questions we might have.  Our dinner in the Da Vinci  Room was excellent, we ordered a nice bottle of wine as we were celebrating my daughter's 26th Birthday.  We then saw a comedy show, toured the ship and hit the various clubs.  It was so much more fun than either one of us had ever imagined!!!  My only regret is that I didn't make it to the casino or order room service on board.

HA Amsterday May 2015 Cruise from San Diego to Vancouver BC by brianoharamd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

All in all was good, solid experience with crew and staff doing a professional and efficient job.  Main problem was it was "fully booked"  and weather outside was not inviting..hence seating at different venues was nearly always crowded..  Lido casual food was excellent but formal dining was disappointing.  Was not able to get a desirable private table for 2 for a birthday celebration. Suggest book early or late dining from the get go and modify as go along.  Also, book upgraded Pinnacle Resturant very early for a "special" fine dining experience.  The dining room menu was extensive but often the selections ho hum and rarely "great"  (this includes both the fish and steaks..my salmon was small, dry and pathetic..like a cafeteria food).

I should have known, but I didn't listen to myself! by sonoranbreeze

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

I booked this 3 night Pacific Coastal Northbound Cruise and had the forethought to call my doc and get my prescription for sea sickness, Antivert.  I've cruised 4 times previous to this and knew it worked for me.  The pre-registration, boarding and room assignment were absolutely flawless.  The ship, although dated, was immaculate.  The sanitary precautions were spot on, no self service buffet, no condiments, salt and pepper shakers on the tables.  We were pleased to see such caution.  I felt the motion on the first day but it was more than bearable.  Just little rises and falls to the stomach. I didn't bother to take my antivert.  Day 2 a little more nauseous and a trip to the ship's doc for a different issue.  Didn't feel great but didn't slow down.  Ate in the main dining room both nights, service was not great, food choices minimal, but tasty

.  The dirty table next to us when we were seated was still dirty when we left.  The server was spotty and not at all interested in chatting it up or being sociable.  I ate bland food both nights, by choice due to my tummy roiling.  Still too stupid and stubborn to take the antivert.  We greatly enjoyed the ship entertainment, the piano bar and the crow's nest late night DJ and dancing.  Day 3 at sea and I was seriously not feeling well, still not smart enough to take the antivert.  Went to the napkin folding class and mixology class while hubby played poker.  Nice fun atmosphere at both.  One drink in and I was flat out sick.  Trying to hold on and not be.  Got dressed for dinner and didn't even make it into the diningroom.  Hubby ate alone and I got sick 4 times in the ladies room before heading quickly to our stateroom.  Was sick and throwing up the rest of the time.  Even sick I know the ship was a fun experience and some old time cruising instead of the drunken frolics of a Carnival Cruise.  By the time I decided to use the antivert I couldn't keep it down.  As I said, too stupid to take it.  I will probably never cruise again, but it has nothing to do with Holland America, which was, by far the best run ship we've ever been on and the best entertainment, and social areas and venues.  Holland America has cruising down, they have it all figured out re embarkation and disembarkation.  Can't praise them enough!

Poor quality food in the main dining room and indifferent service made this "cheap" cruise life up to it's name. by patco32

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

First the good, the room was pleasant for and interior cabin and closet space, although not needed for a seven day cruise was plentiful.  The bath was remarkably small and it was very hard to keep the floor from getting wet and slippery when you showered.  The entertainment was typical, except they had a very good comedian one night.  The pizza bar was good, ice cream limited to 2 flavors daily and the buffet was decent.

The main dining room, especially the main courses, ranged from OK to bad.  The best meal I had was meatloaf...and that should tell you something.  The first night was prime rib.  My tablemate reported that her prime rib was not medium rare, an opinion I seconded.  The waiter said they were, no offer to take the meat (?) back.  The meat was tough, dry and their was one are that looked medium, which we both tried, it was not even the consistancy of beef.  By night three I realized beef was not an option on this trip.  Even on lobster night (which they coupled with shrimp)  I felt the lobster, while flavorful, was almost translucent and undercooked.  The deserts were the only meal highlight.  We could not get refills on tea nor could we seem to get hot coffee with our desert.

Attempting to get a wheelchair to get to the end of the pier proved another challange.  We called the front desk, they said ask when we disembark at security.  Security sent us to the front desk, the front desk said we needed a "medical" note from the ship's doctor (who was off until 5:00 pm) to get a wheel chair.  When I objected to this the clerk took off for about 15 minutes, then came back and said OK go to security.  Security then said they could take is 30 ' to the end of the ramp, but to get to the end of the pier, we would need the Port Authority and they didn't supply wheelchairs.  We gave up and walked slowly to the end of the pier.  On the way back we passed at least 15 "Princess Cruise" wheelchairs??

Disembarkation was a nightmare.  I was told by the headquarters early walk-off was at 7:30...I had tight flight connections, which thankfully I made at Long Beach airport.  I got off the ship at 8:15, 45 min. late.  My friends, whom I had driven with on departure, got off at 12:30 for a 10:15 am disembarkation.

The ports were fine, except we were in San Francisco on a Monday when almost all musuems are closed.

All told...pay the extra and take Celebrity.

Noticed a difference since last time we cruised by linkev428

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Overall, the cruise was good...loved the ports until the last stop.  Not thrilled with Encinada.  Callifornia was great. There seemed to be less attention to detail as in previous cruises we noticed.  We were talking with our table mates and they felt the same way.  Felt that maybe since the tips were already included, they didn't need the little extra attention.  Nothing terrible but just different.

Good cruise by calleebee

Beautiful ship, good onboard entertainment, food is plentiful but could be better, would like to see different daily activities, going through customs in Long Beach was a nightmare....should have had customs come on ship instead of us getting off.

Good enough trip, probably wouldn't take it again. by vasbjk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Service was great, the ship is oddly configured.  You cannot get to certain decks from the above one, must go to middle of ship then down.

The big sale at the end of trip, was a joke.  The prices were the same as in shops throughout the cruise.  Long Beach was a dead stop.  We went to Walmart and Ross there.  The lines were long to get back on the ship in Santa Barbara, maybe not enough tinders?  The dembarkation was easy and quick.
