The Alaska Cruise disaster by ann47gary44

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The embarkation and disembarkation were faster than any cruise we have taken but the meals were a disaster. We chose to eat 1 night in the "complimentary" Seven Seas dining room. My husband, son and daughter-in-law as well as our 2-15 year old granddaughters love seafood. The complimentary meal was $25 a plate for the lobster as well as $25 for crab. We were under the assumption that Alaska was prime for seafood but with 7 people wanting $25 per meal seafood we said "no thanks!" We have cruised Carnival 9 times so we will return to them as dining room meals including shrimp, lobster, and crab are included in our price for the cruise. Our other meals were eaten on the 11th floor in the open dining but salmon was served once in the entire time of this cruise.

Surpassed Expectations! by jacole8423

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our first experience with a cruise so we were "rookies" when it comes to what to expect.  That said, we found the entertainment (number of options and variety) to be beyond what we expected.  The group Innovations was very talented and we enjoyed dancing to their music.  Cruise Directors' staff provided a wide variety to games to engage the audience which was a lot of fun.

Having a fitness center was a real plus for us -- we used it daily; variety of equipment and sufficient number.  Bonus was the Personal Trainer - provided free early AM stretching and abs exercise and, for fee Pilates and Yoga was also available.  The Trainer was outstanding!

Food was reasonably good -- no real complaints. The room accommodates were comfortable and having a balcony made the room feel bigger and was plus for taking glacier pictures!  Well worth the cost.  Yes we recommend this cruise and this particular ship (because it was such a good size).

Excellent itenary, good food, friendly staff by tommy206

excellent excursions and singers. Zip line was lots of fun. Food is good, but deserts are just average. Had sewer smell in hall a couple of doors down for 2 nights. Had to move people out of that room. Glaciers are excellent. Nice to see a glacier that is growing. Ruff seas last night headed for Seward, motion sickness medicine a must for that open sea part. Overall very good. Spa staff is excellent, but expensive.

Amazing experience by trir

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

The attention to detail to food allergies by your Seven Seas dinning room staff was excellent. Once we informed Richard Bull of the dietary needs, he made sure that every meal we had did not compromise the health of anyone in our group. This provided for a worry free dining experience. He passed his attention to detail to all who served us.

Breathtaking views, great ports of call by camperhill

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We loved visiting the ports - Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.  Fantastic 360 views of Glacier Bay, and we saw Orca whales jumping out of the water and many other animals from the boat (sea lions, seals, bears, mountain goats) - definitely find a trip that includes Glacier Bay!  It was really cool having the NPS rangers on board and the narration of what we were seeing.  We had an interior room and found it to be quite spacious, especially compared to interior rooms on other cruise lines.  The staff was helpful and the ship was clean and seemed to be in fine condition.

A Trip of a Lifetime! by Cruiser194

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our first cruise and boy what a cruise it was!  The ship was amazing!  The service was over the top!  The weather was perfect!  There were many times I was just taking it all in and had tears in my eyes because I couldn't believe I was really in Alaska and being able to experience the beauty of the Last Frontier.  Our cruise planner took care of every detail and then some.  I would highly recommend taking an Alaskan Cruise in your lifetime.  Granted we were very fortunate to have wonderful weather for our cruise; but even in typical Alaskan drizzle and clouds, the sights will still be wonderful to see.

ALASKA FIRST TIMER by cthrnshaw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Noordam / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Overall, the organization of the whole cruise + land was excellent. Luggage was handled efficiently and arrived as per plan. Lodgings very good except the Anchorage Westmark hotel was a little old and run down. Dock positions were excellent compared to the competition, and land excursions worked well.

The cruise was very enjoyable.  The food was good and there were many activities available.  The entertainment could use upgrading.  And, the embarkation process to get a shuttle to Vancouver was horrible.

Wonderful experience by mleest

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Our cruise was wonderful from beginning to end. The staff was friendly and attentive, especially Bianca (who helped us with a problem with our return trip--we had been told to book our flight from Fairbanks, which we did, but we were actually flying home from Anchorage), Tamesha, Osman, Sang Made, Urdilapa (sp), Khris and Elvie.

Our favorite port was Icy Point, but we loved the entire cruise. We did not enjoy the first cruise we were on years ago, but we will be back for another Celebrity cruise.

Superb by hutchison5665

I and my wife enjoyed the cruise very much even though it was our first time to take a cruise. Celebrity Millennium employees are very polite and friendly. Our stateroom is very well kept. In addition, we have very good service in the dinning room too. We would say thanks to all Celebrity Millennium employees providing us a unforgotten memory.

Great Alaskan Cruise by msmall

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Overall it was a wonderful cruise on a beautiful ship. We would recommend it to our friends. The food and drinks were good and the menu was varied. We had a slight issue with a moldy, musty smelling bathroom but the room and ship appeared to be clean and in good shape. Great, well-trained crew.

Northward bound inside passage Alaska cruise on Celebrity by mwilk17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Millennium / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I loved El Bacio and the guitarist that played all over the ship all different types of music, he was great.  I liked the naturalist Milos - he also was everywhere and got to know a lot of the passengers and was very informative and humorous.

I did not like the buffet, the food was cold and congealed and the hours of operation were off when we returned from excursions, all dining options were closed and there was very little available on the buffet.  also our cabin was run down and dated, chipped furniture, blinking light fixtures, bad shape overall

I also did not like how with the free style dining tables for two were right next to each other so you were basically eating with different strangers every night - if I wanted to eat with others I'd have preferred having assigned dining this way you eat with the same passengers every night and make friends, the other way this was very uncomfortable - did not like that at all

Review of radiance of the seas by Cruiser532

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Radiance of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was very clean crew very good.  Food was not so great in main dining room or windjammer.

Wind jammer food same every day.

Cascades food very bland

Not enough activities for kids unless they went into daycare. We were on a family vacation un like the other families who dumped their children in daycare.

The entertainment was not very good costumes were not nsync with show so you

Were concentrating on the awful costumes

The juggling comedians were good.

The comedian was awful.

Too expensive for the quality of the room. by EEC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

No hot water in the shower.

Old linens.

Develp terrible allergy and wanted to charge me for a doctor because they only have medical services 4 hrs a day. Had to call my family doctor to prescribe me, the allergy was pretty bad.

The entire ship smells like cigar. People smoke insidr the Churchill room that in in the center of the ship, so cigar smokes goes/smell travels through ship ventilation, library which was next to my room smells so bad, pure cigar. Gave me a headache the entire trip.

Our Excellent Adventure by BoydChris

Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Had an absolutely marvelous time! Lots of activities going on to keep us entertained!  Great food too!  Our room steward, she was the best!!!!!!!  The cruise ship was gorgeous also.  We could not have asked for a better experience.  It was our 50th Wedding Anniversary while on the cruise and the staff made the experience magical!  I would recommend a Norwegian Sun Cruise to everyone interested in cruising.

Wonderful by afsugars

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

LoveLoved each port but especially Skagway, which is like stepping place in time. Least thing about the ports was all the jewelry store, I mean every 3rd store! Really?!

Really liked the Norwegian Sun, the people were great & our Steward was exceptional! Took great care of our room & respected our privacy.

The ship is on of Norwegian's oldest & really wasn't made for Alaska's changing weather. But the food was great, room was clean & entertainment was fun!

Amazing by damcarlson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The trip was wonderful. Great excursions and the glaciers are a must see as well as the whales, bears, moose, dog sled rides and sea lions. The food on the ship could be better as Celebrity and Royal Caribbean are much better in that respect. Also make sure you book with a ship that has a retractable roof over the pool area as the rain surely dampens your pleasure.

Overall the cruise was amazing.  I really enjoyed the free style cruising.  One highlight for me was the train excusion from Anchorage to Seward on the first day.  Our luggage was transported to the ship and to our rooms before we even got tot he ship.  We were able to checkin for the cruise at the airport before boarding the train - saved us a lot of time.  The train ride was amazing.  The cruise was enjoyable and relaxing and the food was great!

June 6-13, 2016 Norwegian Sun Cruise by wjschne

Lucked out with great weather. Enjoyed the specialty restaurants, generally good food. Friendly staff with good entertainment but the song and dance people were better than the juggler.
