Lucked out with great weather. Enjoyed the specialty restaurants, generally good food. Friendly staff with good entertainment but the song and dance people were better than the juggler.

Ship tip

Open dining allowed you to eat when you want but you don't get the same experience as sharing a table with other folks and comparing notes over multiple days. You have less interaction and don't always have the same wait staff.

Ports of call

Seward (Anchorage), Alaska

Spent several days on our own here before the cruise. Lots to see. Stayed three nights at a B&B on Old Exit Glacier Road. Had the chance to hike to the glacier, took another hike in a state park on the coast, toured the aquarium, shopped in town. When we ate at Chinooks we could see the catch being weighed and filleted.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Walked into town and saw the totem pole carving. Walked on the beach a bit at low tide and saw some nice groups of starfish. Local brewery was a good stop on the way back.

Ship did not go there. Never explained why.
