Newport Rhode Island is an American Historical area, however, not by a Cruise ship that must use its Tenders as trying to get to back to the ship is a painful experience, over 2 hours to wait for the return to the ship. took a trolley tour of Marble House and Scenic Newport.

Visit at least one mansion. Can take city bus thru town, hop off for cliff walk and Breakers tour, then back on us to meander in town and take in the Tennis Hall of Fame

Enjoyed this port, took the trolley bus to go see the city, and walked the cliff walk. Very nice uplifting atmosphere and felt very relaxing. But the place was quite crowed in all places !

Loved Newport! We did a private tour and it was fabulous. So much to see in such a small area.

Chaos and Danger. There were two Dawn staff on shore for excursions. (700 people in state of confusion) because Dawn not prepared. Ship said partly cloudy 57 degrees on May 17. The weather looked bad, I asked one of the two staff members to double check weather 3 times. With no weather warning 29 of us entered the 85 foot schooner ride. The weather so bad they could only use half the sail. Within 15 minutes it started raining. Then for the next hour cold freezing rain with no shelter. Finally a lady almost in tears asked to go back. As we arrived to port there was a 500+ person lineup for two tenders in the freezing rain. So after 45 more minutes we had some shelter in tender boat. NOT ONE DAWN STAFF COULD BE SEEN. Now we could have medical bills to visit doctor with cold and flu. RECKLESS, RECKLESS , RECKLESS WITH OUR SAFETY. They knew the storm was on us and sent us out anyway!

No excursion but we did disembark and walk around, bought souvenirs. Several nice restaurants and shops around. The Lobster Shack should not be missed, quaint little place with excellent lobster. You order then find a picnic table to eat on. Very near port. Beautiful old homes and buildings. We had to be tendered from the ship which is always an adventure.
