We did not visit Lifou isle, instead we went to Mare, New Caledonia. This had the most amazing beach with great snorkelling. But we had to catch a bus to get there, which cost $15 per adult and $13 per child. We were not told about this prior to the trip. So we had to pay an extra $86 we had not budgeted for. But the beach was totally worth the bus fare. Jus would have been good if we had been told this before departure.

Really enjoyed Lifou. We went snorkelling at Jinek Bay - $15 per person, it fills up quickly, so if you don’t get there early I suggest waiting till about 12.30/1pm. Also went to the freshwater cave which is a fabulous walk down a rainforest like ravine into a cave which contains a 7m deep pool of fresh water which is fun to jump into.

This was our first stop and I found the crowds a bit overwhelming (although crowds are to be expected on a cruise!). We walked up to the church/look out - nice walk and great view back across the bays. Next was snorkelling at Jinek Bay- great value at only AUD$15, clear waters and enjoyable snorkelling. Plenty of local stalls selling food and drinks.
