We took an excursion that included a tour of the city and then a four hour train ride. The train was unique in that each car was from different eras. It was interested to walk through them and see how rail cars have changed over the years. We saw a lot of natural beauty and a peak into the history of that area.

We loved this port. The people were very friendly to us and welcoming. Being from the USA we did not know how we would be received (4/12/2019) is the time stamp. The USA is not very popular around the globe.

I have heard the Cadbury factory will be closed so please check this before booking. The tour guides may not have updated their tours in line with this news.

We did not book an excursion here there wasn't anything that took our interest. Port Chalmers is a very small town and didn't seem to cater well for cruise ships passengers. It's about half an hour to Dunedin the ship provided shuttle buses but it cost $20 Each person no matter what currency nz,au or us. I used this port to get laundary done. There was a laundromat walking distance for the ship so got a large load of laundry washed and dried for $7.

We went on a wildlife cruise in the harbor where we got to see royal albatross and some fur seals along with other sea birds. After the two hour cruise we took a shuttle to Dunedin and stopped at Cadbury and loaded up on chocolate. Overall a great day not being on the ship.
