Review summary
So the Sydney/New Zealand Cruise was overall an A.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
It was not too bad . . . literally minutes from line to boarding (and we did NOT have priority boarding).
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We never go to the Main Dining Rooms for personal preference. We do visit the grills, buffets and the specialty restaurants. As usual . . . Princess has these venues locked up as the best on the seas. Horizon Court was very good. Crown Grill had the best food for specialty restaurants and Trident Gill was my friend for burgers, hot dogs and fries.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
I'm into fitness so the Fitness Room over the bridge looking out to sea was amazing and calming for my morning runs. For this sailing to have been over-booked . . . you would have not known it. There was plenty of room to accommodate everyone.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
My wife and I come to relax and learn about other countries and cultures. We are not big on the group activities on board or the Entertainment Packages. We do like the shows and concerts. However we did not attend any on this trip.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Merynell was simply FABULOUS. We were sure to let her know how much we appreciated her after the Cruse. We took care of her personally.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Yes. Old girl is getting up there in age. But still . . . very cleaned and maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had a Mini-suite. Plenty of room and clean. A few small plumbing issues but they were handled immediately and never troubled us again. Very minor issue. Being that far forward (under the starboard bridge), we could hear and feel the waves slamming the hull. This did not bother us because it cave us the ambiance of the full sailing experience, We loved it.
Ship tip
I'm not sure about the engineering of the vessels but it seemed that the Golden Princess tends to rock laterally (side to side) more than the Island and Ruby Princesses (and we skirted the Bering Sea on the Island). It seemed as though there were no lateral stabilizers on this ship. You get use to it within hours but it is really pronounced when you are horizontal (lying down with head and feet to bow and stern). You get a rolling feeling that can be somewhat nauseating. Overall she's a good ship, great captain and devoted crew. We would DEFINITELY cruise her again.
Somewhat underwhelming. I didn't mark less than 5 stars because that would not be fair. I guess after cruising Glacier Bay . . . . everything else has a high bar to meet.
We loved this port. The people were very friendly to us and welcoming. Being from the USA we did not know how we would be received (4/12/2019) is the time stamp. The USA is not very popular around the globe.
We took an excursion tour around the city. Very beautiful! We were disappointed we could not visit Christchurch. There was plenty of time but all trips were sold out.It was understandably why (a few weeks after the 2019 massacre).
Another beautiful city and equally beautiful people. We could not have asked for a more perfect weather day . . . and we are from Los Angeles, CA so we know all about beautiful weather. Its hard to beat this day. Plenty of shops and gift shopping extremely reasonable.
We disembarked here in Auckland. Unfortunately we only had time to get to the airport due to the minimum flights out of Auckland to Los Angeles (only two night flights.) The city does look beautiful and very clean.
