A marvellous way to get an overview of NZ, with some of the most spectacular coastline in the world! Definitely worth getting the balcony for.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Our first experience as Platinum guests meant a far quicker embarkation than previously. Processing took about half an hour, so we were onboard by 11:30 am.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate at the Michelangelo MDR most nights and were very pleased with the menu options. The Horizon buffet again was also very good, with plenty of tasty options available. We didn’t eat at any specialty restaurants.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We made some use of the fitness centre, but especially used the thermal spa most days. We really enjoyed this and found this most relaxing!
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We didn’t get to see any of the stage shows, but many of the musicians and performers around the ship were excellent. Worthy of special mention were Master and Commander!
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our stateroom steward, Albert, was quietly efficient and kept our room spotless.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
This was our first time on the Emerald Princess and we were very impressed by the appearance and layout of the ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
B742 was a typical balcony cabin, very comfortable and clean, with a good size balcony to enjoy the splendour of NZ from.
Ship tip
Take a trip up to Skywalker’s—it is worth the effort for the view alone!
A highlight of the entire cruise was the day in the Fiordlands, truly spectacular, a feast for the eyes, made even more interesting by the very knowledgeable commentary from the NZ ranger who joined the Emerald Princess for the day.
Without a doubt, this was the surprise of the cruise, and a most pleasant one at that! To find an authentic French village in NZ was an absolute delight, and being able to visit the Giant’s House made it even more special—what an amazing place to see!
We found the day in Wellington was really interesting. We took the funicular up Mt Wellington and spent some time looking through museum there, before heading out to Zealandia for an educational and thoroughly enjoyable few hours wandering through this amazing park.
Again, having reached Platinum guest level allows for use of the Platinum Lounge, which is equipped with brewed coffee and nibblies. Sadly, this makes leaving the ship even more challenging 😊.
