This port left a little to be desired. Other than visiting the canal for 8 hours or a few others that took half the day (which also could lead to delaying the ship due to not being able to get back on time - which did happen on our trip), there were no other activities that interested me at this port other than visiting the shopping plaza at the port, which also left a little to be desired.

Our excursion took us to the AguaClara Gatun Locks visitor center. Highly recommended! We had a great time there and actually saw a ship going through the locks. Then to Portobello, which was a much more rural experience, we would probably not do again. Although we did buy 2 exquisite molas from some Cuna women there. And they did take dollars.

A real pit of an area. Lots of warnings not to wonder outside the port area.

We returned from our excursion through the port on a bus at night. I would not want to walk around. Looked like a post disaster movie to me. One of my guide books said that if you wanted to get mugged that this is a good port to walk around in by yourself.

The Panama Canal.......No we didn't sail through it, but just seeing it from our view point made it worth-while.......It is one of the greatest things in life you can see. Just the thought of someone coming up with the idea of cutting through a jungle to let ships pass by on a short cut, and seeing how it was done, still amazes me.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again I don't think anything is a waste of time, if you really want to take in the culture of how people live and survive outside of your home town, or country.!!

I did not see a tour that appeared interesting to me. In looking at the port there was no reason to even get off the ship. I have only skip on an opportunity to visit a port one other time. I just could not find a reason to go ashore in this port.

I took a tour of the Panama Canal, a walk through the rain forest and a boat ride down the Changron River. It was a very well guided tour; I recommend this to anyone.

Waste of time in colon, maybe panama city would be better. Kind of scary with lots of security and fending off solicitors. It was uncomfortable and dangerous.
