We took a van ride on the pier to get to the mainland and go to our excursion. This is a very poor city, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed the ride through town looking at all the markets and buildings. Our guide Aaron gave us good information. The excursion was a bit of a let down after going to Mr. Sancho's, but I was glad to contribute to their tourism. These people work hard for very little. It makes you appreciate the abundance we have in the states. The government must be very corrupt for this to be happening in such a beautiful part of the Yucatan. The beaches were beautiful. The people very friendly, just very poor.

We didn't do an excursion here. I was not as impressed with Pregresso versus Cozumel. Progresso appears to be very run down & I got tired of saying "No, Thank You." Cozumel was more relaxing.

I wasn't crazy about this port but our buggy ride excursion was great and the guides were awesome! The ride to the Mayan ruins and pink lagoons however wasn't very nice. Our first buggy broke down and the guides tried to fix it but wound up switching us out to another car. We drove our buggy's on the main highway which wasn't scenic and there were areas with stagnant stinky lakes....and the sun and summer heat YIKES!!😓 But other than that, our guides provided good historic information on Mayan culture at Xcambo ruins, we saw flamingos and salt lagoons, and stopped at Silcer Beach for lunch and swimming.

We had a great time! I suggest going to the Uxmal Mayan Ruins! It was about an hour and a half bus ride to get to the ruins one way but it was worth the long bus ride! We even got to climb one of the pyramids and the view on the pyramid was amazing!

Unfortunately I did not enjoy Progresso very much. The original plan was to take the bus into Merida but that plan changed once I was told the fee to travel to Merida would be $90 for a cab or $50 pp for a bus tour. Neither were in the plans so we stayed in Progresso and did some shopping. After hanging out at one of the cafes and using the wifi for a few hours, we boarded the ship, hours earlier than planned. I see why many don't get off here. I probably wouldn't choose an itinerary with Progresso again. If so, I would just avoid the port.

Mmmm, this port was weird. A lot of military presence and we took a bus that was heaven away from the heat but felt like our protection from something.... It took 30 minutes to get clearance through dome checkpoint and the guys with military rifles made me feel safe and suspicious, allat the same time. It didn't help that I had a sinus infection and was doped up on Mexican penicillin from the duty-free shop but the port was okay. 😜

It may be ok if you book an excursion through Carnival but we decided to just do a little shopping. After walking for 1 block we decided it was best to go back to the ship.
