i did excursion to a resort which was overoccupied the bus was full and i was given the only middle seat on the bus and required to hold my suitcase the entire 45 minute ride

We did a lot of site seeing at port and downtown...you get alot of people trying to sell you things so be prepared to stand firm if you don't want to buy. People were nice and this is how they make their money so it wasn't bad, just constant. We would go back because some of the prices were great...some were over priced also so shop around.

Definitely take a ruins excursion, and get a guide! We toured Xcambo with Iguana Maya and had a fantastic time. Tip your free shuttle driver! They are amazingly adept at maneuvering through the streets.
