The Golden Zone is very far off from port but is probably the safest and cleanest place to just do touristy stuff and hang on the beach. However there were some really neat historic, older parts of the city to explore, too. Just don't find yourself in the real gritty areas isolated...might be dangerous.

I really do not care for Mazatlan. Showed my kids the Cathedral and downtown but we walked back. Didnt like being stalked by cab drivers everywhere.

Hired a taxi rhat took us into historic district which we really enjoyed. Did not do an excursion.

Another beautiful city. We walked into town, very easy. There were expat volunteers to guide you along the way. We watched the cliff divers here.
