Lots to do: St. Mark's square, shopping, exploring different islands, and Gondola rides. We would have been smart to get a water taxi route in order to have planned our time better but overall it is doable on your own if you allow lots of time getting to and from different islands.

I was glad I went to Venice for the experience, and now that I've experienced it, I probably won't go back. The transportation system is pretty awesome though.
