Barcelona has been my favourite European city since my first visit. Unfortunately in the 5 years since my last visit, it has deteriorated, thieves are everywhere, drugs freely offered on the streets by the recent influx of "migrants". This last trip ended in financial disaster for me, with my $12k of camera and lenses stolen from me on La Rambla, by an illegal immigrant. Gone is the Police presence I noticed in 2013, I assume simply because they would have to make arrests, with prisons already full. It really hurts me to say it but Barcelona is not the same safe city of my past visits. To traveller's, beware, thieves are more organised than ever, hawkers distract you while your eating so their accomplices relieve you if your property. No restaurant is safe and none we ate at removed the hawkers who work in tandem with the thieves. Trust no one, be vigilant don't let down your guard.

Free shuttle to Barcelona center was nice, highly recommend getting tickets to Park Guell ahead of your cruise. We did not and could not get into the Park that day. We did purchase La familia de Sagrada tickets in advance and climbed the tower, it was breathtaking. Also the hop on hop off bus covered alot of ground which made the most of the short period of time we were there.

We spent 2.5 days here before the cruise. It was an amazing city to see. Plenty to do! Go out and explore. Would do everything about it again. Don't just fly in and get on the ship. Definitely experience Barcelona (Ramblas, Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa Mila, Camp Nou, PIcasso Museum)
