Be sure to have your Euros and take the little train up to Notre Dame. If you know French music, you'll enjoy the old fashioned flavor. We like to go on our own because we aren't rushed through. Then catch the subway up to Longchamps Palace and have lunch in the gardens just like the art students. The local street vendors have fresh veal sandwiches at $5 euros. Yes, it's possible to eat like a local.

We did the Marseille City sights. Went to the Notre Dame de La Garde basilica overlooking Marseille. Great for taking scenic photos overlooking the city. Not too much time for shopping unless you leave the tour at the end and take the shuttle back to the ship.

Breathtaking views all around, but thought the passengers were going to mutiny the bus due to no a/c. Once everyone got out (and froze) the disposition changed. This was really the turning point for understanding it it's all about the company with whom you are with, and not the quality of the tour itself. Our guide recovered nicely, but looked like he might be considering another profession when all was said and done.

We went on an excursion to Provence, and this was the best! We toured two very picturesque towns, leaned a lot about Van Gogh and Nostradamus. Our tour guide, Cedrick, was phenominal...the right mix of humor and local knowledge. We visited two restaurants and enjoyed the local wines. Wonderful day.
