Booked transportation with NCL to take us to both Pisa and Florence. I had been here before about 13 years ago, that is why we decided not to get a guided tour. We had an hour in Pisa to explore on our own and 3 hours in Florence. I was very disappointed with florence, it seemed to have gotten worse. Yes, it us a beautiful city, but everyone there is soooooo pushy and it was very crowded. Please be careful with your surroundings and your purse and or wallet. They are constantly trying to get you to buy something and follow you around. My husband kept getting approached buy some guys to they were very hands on slipping a bracelet on him and asking for money. They are very persistent...just say no and keep walking. They have someone looking out to see where you keep your money. I will never go back to florence. I could not appreciate the city because I was constantly in the lookout for my purse and my daughter.

Pisa and Florence are not close to port. Livorno is small but very pretty. easy to take train to Pisa and Florence but need to get off boat early to cartch shuttle to train station. a 30 min walk to Tower from train station. if you take train to Florence make sure to take last stop. 1st stop in Florence is NOT the right one. (Hint on which one we took) cost was very afortable for trains.

Took a tour with a peivate company for 1/3 the cost of the NCL tour. Florence is beautiful and I would like to go back someday. The leaning tower was great but otherwise not much else in Pisa.

See my comments on the timing of the shore excursion on Rome, the same thing applies here. My wife and I both felt that Florence was the best city we visited. We booked the Hop on-Hop off bus, and went ot the Uffizi Gallery. Florence was the center of the Renisannce, and the Uffizi shows it. It did take enough time to see that we didn't do the hop on-hop off bus, after the Uffizi, we got some lunch and went to the Duomo (right next to the Uffizi), did a little shopping then it was time to go.

We started in Pisa and took all the fun pics in front of the tower. Seems like there’s not much in Pisa to do besides see the tower. We saw the original David in Florence.. ate pizza and walked around. All the warnings of pick-pocketers had me very on edge the whole time in Florence though.. I even saw scammers with my own eyes! Just beware!
