We did an NCL excursion, seeing the Trevi fountain, the Fourum, The Colleseum (inside & out) and St Peters Basilica. The tour was fast paced and a lot of walking. Also their was a long wait at St Peters; even so it was a great tour. A nice lunch was included. Our guide, lisabeta and Letizia were great and very knowledgeable.

From the ship take the free shuttle to the port gate. (This can be difficult because there is no one from celebrity directing people where to go. Once you pick up your luggage they are done. Look around for buses with a sign in the window). Once at the port gate take the city bus €2 to the train station. €5 train to Rome Termini. You should stay a couple of nights in Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Pantheon. Great location, rooms and breakfast.

The port quay is very long and requires a free bus ride. Allow 15 minutes or more for this bus. Train station is a 20 minute walk or taxi ride at the end of a long day. Train is convenient and easy to ride. Don't get off at Termini, get off two exits earlier at Ostiense. Take the Metro 2 stops to Colosseum or other locations. Termini is very big and not a lot of people to give directions.

If you have aleady done to basics in Rome, consider the excursion to Orvieto. Medieval city with great shopping, Singorelli's frescos at the Doumo, and good food.
