Wow! One day goes fast and wasn't enough to see Rome. If I'd have realized that, I'd have started or ended in Rome and planned two or three days to explore it. As for a tip: we took the train ourselves - not an excursion. Be careful to get the train schedule for your day of the week - we almost didn't get back in time!

We visited Rome earlier in the year and did most of the site-seeing at that time. This time, we stayed one night but was able to complete a quick walking tour. For the people visiting Rome the first time. it is recommended that two to three days be allocated for a complete tour.

We booked a tour of Rome before we sailed, again through cruiseexcursions.com. Rome was beautiful and the guide was excellent. So much to see it is a full on trip but if you've never bee to Rom before a definite must.

Its great to see all the historic sites but its very far from the port. I don't know that I would want to go back to Rome as a cruise port. It was still very busy even at the end of tourist season.
