We came a day early and stayed a day after disembarkation and enjoyed seeing the town (waterfront, Moro castle - and beaches). Great restaurants.

We stayed 3 days prior to the cruise at a wonderful boutique hotel in Old San Juan. Post Maria, the area is open but very quiet. We found shop keepers were eager for business, but very friendly and openly talked about their experiences. The PR people are passionate and hopeful towards recovery.

Best destination on the cruise. My only complaint is we did not have more time to spend there.

Definitely just walk off the ship and explore Old San Juan. No shore excursion necessary!

San Juan 2017 was nice we did a private tour and the tour guide was great he took us to a national Forrest and we saw plantain plants elephant plants and many more different types of things that we were not use to seeing we went to a visitor center and he took us to a waterfall it was so beautiful you had people climbing it to take selfies and as we were driving up a higher latitude our ears were popping lol the we stopped at this building this building that looked like a light house it had alot of stairs and a mini gift shop too we got to the top and you could see the mountains and fog and alot of forrest and we took pictures up there it also had a telescope you could view through it he was a great guide and driver because that was a tight squeeze and a one way in and out type of drive and you had alot of road work going on to and sharp curves got back to the port area and we did some shopping and I got addicted to those frozen ice treats they had I will definitely go back.

Had a short stop in San Juan so chose not to do an excursion. Got off the boat and did a little shopping.

We loved this island. We did a post-cruise tour on our own with Hillbilly Junior from Hillbilly Tours. They're a nice family business, and Junior was FANTASTIC. He was VERY accommodating to our desires, and customized our tour. Look them up!
