If you can say no thank you and keep walking, nothing about this island should upset you. We found nothing but friendly people! We shopped the Straw Market. Our kids loved trying to haggle for a better deal and the souvenirs they brought home from here are by far their favorite because they got the deal they wanted. We went to a few shops, the kids had the island soda, Goombay punch, a pineapple soda only sold in the Bahamas and at the world of coke. My husband and I opted for the traditional rum punch. It was a beautiful day of sightseeing and shopping after our morning excursion. We didn’t make it to the beach because everyone was enjoying the culture and shopping too much to want to go. Relax, look around, enjoy this beautiful stop.

We had a great time in Nassau. After reading so many negative comments about the city being dirty, unsafe etc. I was a bit nervous. We ended up doing a last minute bus tour around the city. Yes, it's a poor country. The driver was quite clear locals work in the resort areas but they don't live there. He took us through town and we saw housing conditions that were very sad. They thrive on tourisim though so not visititing the city only makes things worse. We got off the tour at Fish Fry and walked towards Junkanoo Beach. We got about half way down and two local guys had.pulled over in their car to throw out trash. We asked if we were close to the beach they let us know we were headed in the right direction and we walked on. We found ourselves in front of Crabs 'n Tings where they had beach chairs to rent and food. The owner was a sweet lady who let us run a tab and the only reason we left was thunder storms popped up. The beach was busy but it's a free beach in walking distance to the ships ( there were four in port) so that's expected. The people were friendly, the beach was beautiful and we had a great time. We walked back to the ship through the Straw Market souvineer shop section. No pushy sellers, no one offering drugs as complained about by others. It's a foreign country. Use your travelling sense and go have fun! We're. Looking forward to going back.

I have been to Nassau six times. With children, without children, planned excursions, and on my own exploration. I feel very comfortable in this city. It is a tourist town, so yes, the locals will try to sell you things, all you need to say is no thank you and move on. The only time I have ever felt uncomfortable is when a bunch of Americans from my ship acted like utter fools at Junkanoo beach. Of course, be smart. Don’t do anything here you wouldn’t do in a major city back home. Nassau is great and unfairly gets a bad wrap.

My third trip to Nassau, and a very emotional one. My husband became ill the last time we were in Nassau and it turned out he had a near fatal brain tumor. Lots of memories. I always stop by Senor Frogs at the end of the port, and go through the Straw Market (which seemed smaller somehow). I went back to ship early, and sat on the balcony and cried healing, cathartic tears. It was, as always, a blessed place.

We went to Atlantis for the day, and our children had a blast. I read so many negative reviews before we went and was apprehensive. Nothing of the sort was further from the truth! The Bahamian people are some of the nicest we have encountered. Even at the port, we didn’t feel pressured. Also, I wanted to try conch fritters, and after a long day in Atlantis, our children were falling asleep, so our really nice cab driver recommended Linda’s at the port. We had conch fritters, and they were absolutely delicious. To top it off, we also got jerk chicken, and it was better than the jerk chicken at our resort when we stayed in Jamaica. Highly recommend Linda’s at the port. Conch fritters $5 and jerk chick was $7 I think.

Self guided day in Nassau. Took #10 bus to Bahamar resort to explore. The place is massive. Seems more geared towards adults than rival, Atlantis. Place is sprawling. On par with a new Vegas Strip hotel. Several very high-end shops. A variety of restaurants and a buffet. If anyone is going to Atlantis for the casino, Bahamar is far superior. Huge casino floor. They also have free Wi-Fi. #10 bus is $1.25. Stop is a few blocks from pier. Any Bahamian can tell you where bus stop is. Note there is also a #10A. #10A is the local bus that goes through regular residential area. 10 is an express. They also go to Cable beach Everyone was super nice as always.

Wife and I got off the ship within an hour of arrival in port. Went through the building, past the hair braiders, and out the gate. Asked the security person for directions, and then we walked up the hill through town (talked with a few locals in passing) to the Queen's Staircase. Talked to the two guys there, got the history behind this place, gave one guy $5, and he took all the pictures we wanted. Then we walked back down the hill over to the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory. Had some free samples, talked with the English gentleman and also the owner or manager guy with the Dolphins hat, bought a pile of rum cakes, and lugged them back to the ship. We went back out again but turned right outside the gate this time, and visited the chocolate factory which was too expensive but in a nice large property. The hotel restaurant was older but beautiful. Overall in this port you will walk past some abandoned properties, and the walking up that hill was a bit strenuous, but all the people we encountered were friendly and polite. Don't be scared away like we were in the past about visiting Nassau. If you don't want to be hassled don't go to the straw market. There are lots of other great places to visit. We can't wait to go back.

Nassau was a blast. We went to the blue lagoon and on the way back we got off the boat at margaritaville. We walked over the huge bridge back to the boat, about 3 miles. Sightseeing and shopping all the way. Never felt unsafe. Found rum cake and even got caught in a tropical downpour. It was truly one of the best days, ever.

For me this was the highlight of the trip. People say time after time that the port was nasty and dirty and the people were pushy, well a simple no thank you goes a long way. They rely on the cruise ships so they can make their living. Nothing in Nassau is grown naturally and everything is imported that's why the water is so clean and clear and the air is fresh. So when foreigners come to the island and litter and destroy their economy yes it becomes dirty. Sounds to me like the great USA😐. We took a private tour of the country and got to see how they live. To me it's no different from this country here. We were told about the history of the country and found it to be very informative. They called us family and treated us as such. We went to the flea market and visited the caves. Got the history of that but we were not going in lol. We then headed to the fish fry where we ate at Twin Brothers enjoyed some conch fritters which were very delicious and had these really hugh fish burgers which we could not finish eating, they were sooo good. This was the best port of the trip and we can't wait to do it again.

It poured the whole time we were there. We did a little shopping, then went back to the ship for lunch. Why pay at a restaurant on the mainland, when you can eat on the ship for free?
