Book an excursion. There is a nice RC 30+ acre shopping complex at the dock, but it is a lot of shops with all the same merch.

The port area is nice. No pushy sales people and great selections of stores. Margaritaville was a blast! The food was fabulous and the prices were reasonable. Drinks were delicious and neverending.

Inside the port area, I found the shopping to be varied and nice. I did the excursion for Montego Bay on your own. It was ok, nothing to rave about. The bus ride gave you the opportunity to see the Jamaican country side.

My daughter and I wanted to do the Dunn's River Falls tour but woke up a bit too late to go on that one. We ended up taking a tour to the Martha Brae River and did a tubing trip which was so much fun! It would have been nice if drinks and food were included but they were there available for purchase, and the jerk chicken was yummy but not spicy like I thought jerk should be. It was Chukka tours and they were really great, made the day a lot of fun!

Our group did 2 different things. One group went to the Blue Waters Beach Escape with RC. BEAUTIFUL white sand beach and great swimming. Food and drink were good. Drinks are strong. Their non-alcoholic smoothies were wonderful. The other half of our group went on Pete Taylor's Blue Hole and Dunn's River Falls (DRF) Trip. Our ship didn't get in until 10am, tour started at 10:30am. It's an hour drive to DRF and they got there at the peak time. Then went to the Blue Hole (BH). BH is sketchy. The rocks are slippery and you have to be careful. Our group had about an hour there, but that was good because it's dangerous and one of the teens even said that if they'd spent more time there, they would have taken more risks and someone probably would have gotten hurt. There are tons of native smoking weed too. It's not organized well with guides, just a bunch of locals. RC does not go there and now we know why. The drive back was rushed and they didn't have time to stop for food, so they were hungry when they got back at 5:30. The van was dirty and the fast drive back was a bit scary. Save yourself the anxiety and go on an RC excursion to DRF and skip the BH.

We purchased an excursion to Blue Hole with lunch for our entire party. We showed up to check in and bus driver never came left all of us standing in parking lot with no explanation so we had to purchase an additional excursion that was still available. After we returned I spent a good deal of time on phone trying to get reimbursed.

Royal has done a great job to make us feel safe at the port but beyond that it is pretty scarey. Stick to the shopping area by the ship. Make sure you do Royal excursions at this port--they might be a tad more money but are well worth the safety factor and will wait for you if you get caught in traffic--which can be tricky. We did the 4-hour Dreamer 55ft Catamaran. We had a blast snorkeling from the boat (should be a good swimmer) eating and drinking complimentary snacks and dancing and singing favorite tunes. Guides were fun and knowledgable about the area.

We also enjoyed Falmouth and had booked and off ship excursion to the blue hole. That was the best part of this port. The only issue was it took over an hour drive from the ship to get to the Blue Hole. We did get to see culture and enjoy the people and try out their native foods. The Blue Hole was truly a great experience however if you don't swim I don't recommend you do this since you have to dive from small jumps into the rivers and water falls. Best experience though
