Review summary

I had a wonderful time on this cruise, and would love to cruise on the Independence once she is refurbished. She is an awesome ship, and I love the mid size. I feel everything was top notch, and I have no complaints about service, the condition of the ship, the food, or any activities. Other than the embarkation, I was 100% satisfied and will continue to sail with Royal Caribbean again...I've already booked my next trip!

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Unfortunately, embarkation was delayed due to extra time needed in cleaning the ship. Previous cruise was a charter, and unfortunately they made a terrible mess. The delay was not the cruise lines fault. I was not thrilled about everyone getting on board at the same time. Felt it was way too many people...felt more like a herd of cattle being rounded up. Other than that. Check in was a breeze and no issues getting sea pass card.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I found the food and service in the MDR and Windjammer to be excellent. Had the greatest waiter in the MDR. Shout out to Dominic! Only went to Johnny Rockets as far as speciality restaurants and I was disappointed in my hamburger. It was over cooked and tasteless. Service however was good, and it was a fun place to eat.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I actually did not do any of the activities, but my friends raved about them. My favorite activity was sitting in the solarium and relaxing!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Went to all of the stage shows and they were all fantastic! I can give nothing but praises in this area.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service was wonderful from the moment I was onboard the ship. I didn't see the room Stewart except for once, but my cabin was always clean and serviced well. I only had one request, and it was handled in a speedy fashion. As mentioned before, my waiter in MDR was awesome, along with the other servers and staff throughout the ship. Unfortunately, I had to make a few trips to guest services regarding incorrect charges. Each time I went there were friendly, cheerful, and quickly resolved the problem.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Freedom class of ships are my favorite. I love the layout and design of this ship. It was clean and well maintain despite the age of the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was comfortable, had adequate storage, and cleanliness was up to par. Loved spending time on the balcony. The balconies are not huge, but I wish there was one lounge chair on them,

Ship tip

Spend your first hours on the ship getting to know it. While your waiting for your cabin to be ready, explore the ship floor to floor , from bow to stern. Also, make sure you read your Compass everyday, so you don't miss anything!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Didn't do any tours. Just stayed in hotel pre cruise, and boarded the ship here.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
Love this private island. I prefer the beaches by Columbus Cove due to the soft sand. Whenever I go to Labadee it is always a quiet, relaxing beach day. I never do excursions here. Once I found my perfect spot, I just relaxed and enjoyed the peace. Picnic lunch was good, and I enjoyed it.

Falmouth, Jamaica

4 out of 5
Inside the port area, I found the shopping to be varied and nice. I did the excursion for Montego Bay on your own. It was ok, nothing to rave about. The bus ride gave you the opportunity to see the Jamaican country side.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation was not too bad. Once off the ship, everything went quickly and smoothly through customs. Unfortunately, my mobile passport wouldn't work, so I didn't get a chance to see it it would have made things go even quicker.
