Ketchikan is a lovely port. Just what you would picture for Alaska. We went on bear watching excursion for a pricey amount only to be told the bears don't come out in the day and we would have a better opportunity to see them in the very early morning hours or the very late night hours, mostly when the ships are not in port. However, this does not stop them from selling the excursions, knowing full well a bear sighting is very rare.

paid for 8 to visit "raptor center"..very poor with only 2 birds, feeding of fenced reindeer and badly delivered guide talk..most uninteresting trip through forest..with way too many warnings of bear contact.
