Cabin type: Inside

Review summary

The Sapphire is a large ship and beaultifully decorated. The staterooms were roomy and no matter where we went on the ship, we never felt crowed. The ship's staff kept the place clean and sparkling.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The traditional dining was exceptional. However, the buffets were often crowded and the food not as fresh, The selection of food on the buffets was pretty much the same everyday with little variety.

Entertainment

Exceptional shows at night.

Service and Staff

This was the first cruise I have been on that we did not see the Captain at all. He did not make an appearance at either formal night nor did he make an appearance at the "Captians Cocktail Party", which I thought was rude. When we inquired where the captain was, we were told "he is a busy man". It would have been nice to even get a glimpse.

Ports of call

Victoria, British Columbia

The City Tour seemed to be a waste of time, but did end up at Craigdarroch Castle which made the excursion worth it. I would have liked to see just an excursion to the Castle which would have given us time to shop in downtown Victoria. The City tour took the entire amount of time we had in port and most of the driving around was in upper scale neighborhoods. The tour would have been much better had it been to the Castle and downtown, by-passing the residental neighborhoods.
Don't Miss: Craigdarroch Castle.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Ketchikan is a lovely port. Just what you would picture for Alaska. We went on bear watching excursion for a pricey amount only to be told the bears don't come out in the day and we would have a better opportunity to see them in the very early morning hours or the very late night hours, mostly when the ships are not in port. However, this does not stop them from selling the excursions, knowing full well a bear sighting is very rare.
Don't Miss: I recommend Creek Street. I found the history to be colorful and delightful.

Juneau, Alaska

A must see is the whale-watching. We were very fortunate to see seven whales performing a bubble-netting feeding. Well worth the time and money for this excursion.

Skagway, Alaska

The White Pass Train Ride. The most breath-taking scenery I've ever seen. The guides were wonderful in their descriptions of the Gold Rush and what it was like during that time.

Pros: The awe-inspiring scenery

Cons: Disembarktation at the ports
