We had a great hiking experience to the Mendenhall Glacier with Kristin from Gastineau Guiding. This was an outstanding learning experience thanks to the knowledge, insight and humor of our guide. This excursion proved to be a good and much needed workout.... Had a great draft beer in the old hotel / bar in town after the hike.

Mendenhall Glacier trip and whale watching are a go rain or shine. Raincoats, umbrellas, waterproof hats and shoes may be needed. Also, you may need a lens cloth to dry your camera lens.

The tram is a must. I bought the Alaska Toursaver book online and it has 2 for 1 coupons to use in almost every port well worth the money to have it mailed to you prior to departure. Many of the stores right next to the port are owned by the cruise lines so if you want a more authentic local experience venture into the town further. For more variety of items, budget friendly and local vendors Ketchikan is the place to shop.
