A: You posted this under the Juneau port page. No idea what cruise line you’re taking. Call the cruise line.
Answered by jpmato16 on October 23, 2024
A: this has nothing to do with the cruise line. If you booked an excursion through the cruise line then you need to contact the cruise line. If you book the excursion through a travel agent then contact the travel agent.

Q: Can anyone tell me what other food they offer at the salmon bake? Like the sides and what not. Thank you

A: We went to the salmon bake in March ‘23 off the Ruby Princess. It was worth every penny. There was a large variety of food that I didn’t sample, wanting to concentrate on maximizing salmon intake. My wife and our friends tried several other dishes an... d said everything was delicious. There was a variety of salads, BBQ ribs, cornbread, beans, scalloped potatoes, corn, etc. The site is beautiful with a stream and waterfall. We stayed there a couple hours until they decided to evacuate me before I exploded. I love salmon and this was paradise.See More

A: We were there in July. There is a bunch of food! Ribs, Caesar salad, beans, Cole slaw, I can’t even remember everything, plus cake. It is worth every penny. Beautiful spot very close to town. The salmon was great and I’m not a big fan. There is also... a water fall a short walk up the trail. We loved this excursion.See More

A: The last time we were there in August, it was warm & sunny. We were in TShirts & I was wishing I had packed shorts. But the weather can change from day to day. I suggest putting Juneau on your weather app & checking it as you get closer to departure.

A: Hello, I was in Juneau 2 days ago, it was on 60°. We went to the Glacier and literally were sweating while walking to the falls. My advice, wear layers and bring a bag, so you can take some clothes off if needed and put it away or viceversa.

A: Best outfit for AK- waterproof hiking shoes & waterproof jacket. I’m finishing up my cruise & it was very warm and unusually not raining this past week. If you go out on a boat excursion layer up because it will be cold & windy outside. Expect rain a... nd hopefully you won’t have rain!See More

A: Plan for rain and 60 to 70 weather. Ought of my 2 Alaskan cruises I have yet to need rain gear BUT everyone always says it normally rainy. I just buy a couple of cheap $1 or $2 emergency rain poncho to carry just in case.

A: We rented a Turo. For four people, that was much cheaper than the Blue bus and we had it all day to see all the other sites also.
Answered by willwork4cruz on March 19, 2024
A: There was a car rental in one of the hotels, walking distance from where the cruise ship was docked, we were able to drive to Mendenhall plus drive and see other sites in the area, was nice to have full control of site seeing for the day.
Answered by Frozenman0 on March 16, 2024
A: We rented a car with Turo for our cruise next week 🤩

Q: Has anyone booked an excursion that includes Mendenhall, whale watching, and salmon bake?

A: We did the Best of Juneau which included all those things. Found a private company selling this tour in port as we left the ship. It was cheaper than through the ship and a small group with more time at each activity.
Answered by willwork4cruz on November 5, 2023
A: did it via Royal Caribbean. Saw 11 different humpback and some seals. The bake was delicious and plentiful. Plus, the waterfall there is really pretty.
Answered by TheCruzeLife on November 4, 2023
A: we did "The Best of Sitka", and it was supposed to include all 3 of those things but I guess we were the only group to sign up for it so they stuck us with another group that basically did the same thing but no one ever told us that it was canceled a... nd we ended up waiting so long for everything, and they kept switching busses on us, it was so bad that we made t- shirts that say "I survived the worst of Sitka May 2022"See More

A: In Juneu, we did whale watching & it was great to hear everyone on the boat give an excited comment each time we saw a whale. The sea lions were also amazing.

A: All depends on who you booked the excursion with and why you need to have a refund. This is one of the reasons to purchase third-party insurance to cover situations like missed or canceled excursions.

A: the end of September Alaskan cruises are often awesome. weather is still great and the crowds are way down. as always, pack waterproof pants, socks and shoes and bring waterproof upper layers just in case. I can't imagine 2 weeks later would be much... different. The only downside is there is often too much ice near the glaciers and they have to cancel those areas.See More

A: We cruised with Holland America to Alaska the last week of September and the first week of October. Most days we were in capris and perhaps a light jacket. Rain happened often but never lasted too long. We’re from Michigan so we’re not put off by rai... ny weather. A lot of the stores are seasonal and had already closed for the season by the time we arrived. The temperature most of the two weeks we were there, the range was from low fifties to high sixties, very do-able. Try the reindeer sausage, it’s delicious. Enjoy!!!See More

A: One more observation about October Alaskan cruises... if you're lucky as we have often been, you'll be the last ships in each port and the shop owners will literally be giving items away because they are planning on heading back to Arizona or Florida... or eastern Europe or India for winter and items would expire.See More
Answered by cbyron3 on June 20, 2023
A: It’s 40 to 50 F and rains 3 out of 4 days in October in Juneau, just to give you an example. 50 F and rainy is not enjoyable to me. Plus places start closing up in October.
Answered by jpmato16 on June 19, 2023
A: Yes, a Texan will undoubtedly find an October cruise to Alaska uncomfortably cold and wet. For reference, I'm from Seattle, where the weather is very similar to SE Alaska, and I found a September sailing to be too cold and wet, and would not do again... .See More

A: My friend went 2 years ago in October and while the weather was not bad, almost all excursions were cancelled due to fog/weather. So keeping that in mind and having back up plans would be good. Great changes to see the Northern Lights!

Q: taking this cruise on August 4th and according to shipmates day 3 has both the inside passage and Juneau. is it both. Do we do the inside passage going to Juneau since we don't get to Juneau until noon? hope this question makes sense!

A: in the morning you will likely go up one of the straits to see a glacier. this is on the way to Juneau and why you'll be pulling in there around noon
Answered by jallaway on October 23, 2022
A: You go through Inside Passage like 5am - 10am the it docks in Juneau and you are there for the day
Answered by florida2 on October 24, 2022
A: The inside passage is the scenic coastal route the ship will take to get you to many of your scheduled ports / destinations. Think of it as a scenic highway versus and interstate.

A: I’ve heard others say Icy Strait is great but I did it in Juneau and saw a few humpbacks and a bunch of orchas. One orcha was curious and swam beside us for a good while. It was so cool!

A: @lanaharvey - In July 2018, I did the whale watching excursion in Victoria, BC and we saw an entire pod of Orcas. We followed them for awhile. It was a great excursion.
Answered by OceanExplorer on June 17, 2022
A: in May at ISP the orcas were within 100 yards of the deck at the Smokehouse Grill. I was just grabbing a quick soda before reboarding the ship and there they were! I think what kind of whale you see just depends on who's moving through during their m... igration. At Icy Strait Point, we could watch all the tour boats and see where the whales were, they were so close in. I suspect at Juneau the boats head out a bit further in the water.See More
Answered by MarySueSays on June 14, 2022
A: We are sailing Sept 9 on the Ovation. We are planning a whale tour in Juneau. Has anyone done a whale tour in Victoria BC? My daughters goal is to see the orcas.
Answered by lanaharvey on June 13, 2022
A: Always Icy Straits for humpbacks, bubble-net lunge feedings ( 4 out of five times and once right off the ship) and once had a visit from orcas(as they found us). I’ve seen orcas in Juneau twice, but in the distance.
Answered by jeno60 on June 12, 2022

A: We did dog sledding on the Mendenhall glacier in Juneau a few years ago. There had been about 8 inches of fresh snow that morning, but it was sunny and beautiful when we went. We just wore several layers and were definitely warm enough.
Answered by karlgrgurich on April 24, 2022
A: I haven't been on that excursion before but I have been on a glacier in Canada and it was freezing. I would bundle up.
