I’ve heard others say Icy Strait is great but I did it in Juneau and saw a few humpbacks and a bunch of orchas. One orcha was curious and swam beside us for a good while. It was so cool!

We are sailing Sept 9 on the Ovation. We are planning a whale tour in Juneau. Has anyone done a whale tour in Victoria BC? My daughters goal is to see the orcas.

Always Icy Straits for humpbacks, bubble-net lunge feedings ( 4 out of five times and once right off the ship) and once had a visit from orcas(as they found us). I’ve seen orcas in Juneau twice, but in the distance.

I've seen it said Icy Strait is best, but we were there last week and ended up doing whale watching at both (our Juneau excursion was cancelled) and Juneau had a lot more whale action. We didn't see orcas, but so many humpbacks eating around the surface bc it was warm.

When we went whale watching in Juneau we had a young humpback show off for us while following our boat for an hour. He/she was breaching, tail and fin slapping, and waving at us, it was amazing.

We've enjoyed both locations... but ISP was amazing!!

in May at ISP the orcas were within 100 yards of the deck at the Smokehouse Grill. I was just grabbing a quick soda before reboarding the ship and there they were! I think what kind of whale you see just depends on who's moving through during their migration. At Icy Strait Point, we could watch all the tour boats and see where the whales were, they were so close in. I suspect at Juneau the boats head out a bit further in the water.

@lanaharvey - In July 2018, I did the whale watching excursion in Victoria, BC and we saw an entire pod of Orcas. We followed them for awhile. It was a great excursion.
