Walked over to the actual village of Hoonah. Enjoyed speaking with some men from the Tlingit tribe who were carving a huge totem pole. Crafts in the shops right at the port were all made in Alaska which was exactly what we were looking for.

This is a new port, their visitors center was beautiful. Their history museum for this remote area was very good, shops had a good variety of local crafts. People were very friendly and gracious. Beautiful coastal landscape, saw lots of sea lions.

The Indian tribal dance was nice but the participants were all teenagers.

There really is no town there for tourists. It is a pretty 1/5 mile walk into town but really nothing there. The cannery was interesting. This was a good place to see nature!

plan an excursion here. the town is extremely small and very new. the views are perfect, but after 20 min., not much more to see.

Don't miss out on this stop....so much to do, see and learn about native culture, fishing industry and for the more adventurous Zip line and Crabby Bloody Mary are too die for!

Where the ship anchored (tender service here) there were several whales swimming near the ship. Whale watching tours actually came back out by the ship to watch the same whales.

Icy Strait Point museum is great, but make sure to go to Hoonah village. It's a keeper. So is the Office bar: great food and cheap beer!
