Which is the way to go for Cruise insurance? Cruise Line or Independent Co.

Ahoy Maties! Happy

On my first virgin cruise, it was only 4 days so I just went with Carnival's Cruise Insurance, because I just rather be safe than sorry. I felt it was seasonable and worth the fee. I was also sailing by myself. Good deal!

This next cruise will be the whole family for 7 days on Carnival and I've been reading more and doing some research. I'm hearing more about other companies that offer Cruise Insurance. I'm also finding some better rates out there. Being the novice here, I'm turning to you my Cruise Buddies that have a whole lot more experience and knowledge that I trust for advice in this department! Wink

What is your personal preference? Any recommendations on Cruise Ins. companies that you may have used and have or have not been satisfied with? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated! Happy Thank you and Happy Cruising!

I have never bought cruise insurance and never needed to cancel. That may change some time in the future if our health changes.

Hi OGW :)

Yes, talking cruise insurance only.

Prior to having health crises, we never purchased trip insurance... never, ever. Unfortunately, in the wake of the challenges of the past couple years, trip insurance has become a line item on our cruise budget. The only cruises we did not insure were late or last minute bookings. When we book far in advance, the trip is insured.

As for cost, usually between $200-400 range depending on cruise length. Hubby pays a bit more than I do (age differential).

Cruise insurance is not expensive. It's about $200 for cruises under $3000.

we have filed a claim. Life happens. We would have lost over $4000 without it.

I use the insurance company I purchase through and I've needed file a claim once and had no issues with.

I have used travel insurance a few times. One trip dad got sick and could not travel, another trip I got the flue and no way I would have been let on a ship or a plane and can not forget the time I could not go because I had to go in for a surgery. For me it has paid out more then I have paid in.

I prefer to get the travel insurance from a 3rd party. When getting it through the cruise line it only handles the cruise, not air fare or hotel. I book non-refundable air and hotel to get the best price.

I have had no trouble at all making claims when I got my travel insurance through Vacationstogo. I just sent in my medical slip that I could not have made the trip along with proof of payment to the hotel, air lines and cruise line. they had payment to me in less then a couple weeks.

Big SmileThanks everybody for your quick responses. I'm gonna put my husband on the "research and comparison mission" with the information and tips you've given me. I knew y'all wouldn't let me down!Wink I still welcome any other suggestions. Y'all are the best!!!

The cruise insurance covers both the cruise and also health matters (such as emergency air evacuation running tens of thousands of dollars).

I have spent more on life insurance than I will receive, and I have never had a claim. That doesn't mean one should not get life insuranceWink

We go through Trip Insurance Store. We have found better rates and better coverage when we buy from an outside company rather than through the cruiseline.

agreed, OGW. That's why we never get cruise travel insurance.
