What do you think of this Royal Caribbean/Celebrity muster drill video?

I sailed Symphony of the Seas the week before last, and thought the muster drill video was overly long and kind of cheesy for a safety drill that is mandated by the government. I just found out that it's the same video they use for Celebrity and I'm pretty sure the rest of the Royal fleet, too. They just change out the aerial views based on the ship you're sailing.

I have heard mixed opinions about this. There were crew members that were at the safety drill with life jackets, so I thought they would be doing some kind of demonstration during or after the video, but they didn't. It was just unusual. What does everyone here think?

I watched most of it on YouTube. That is really dumb! I hope they get it out of their system before next October when we cruise with them.

Sad but true that these days to get through to the millennials you need to fluff up the message in order to keep their attention

I agree with many of the posters here--I've seen this video on RCI ships several times and feel the important messages are completely lost in the convoluted story. I understand why they did it this way--to keep people's attention--but it's pointless unless we get what we need out of it. And safety info is not something to be shrouded in mystery.

One thing I personally thought they did effectively is the little "wash your hands" video. The tune was so catchy, it was swimming around in my head for days. And, alas, you just can't hear that message enough...- Musing About Cruising

I've seen it onboard a half-dozen times. It doesn't get any better. At least we don't have to come down with our life jackets on anymore. What is worse than the video is standing there waiting for those that know what time it starts, but refuse to be there in a timely manner, probably the same ones we wait for at departure time at every port.

Well...welcome to our happy little addicted group!..I peeked at your pedigree and it looks like you've been cruising almost forever! I never bothered to put all my old ones in there...just laziness I guess.FWIW, re this actual topic..I opined awhile back in another thread on this subject that in case of real emergency, people who actually paid some attention to the location of the lifeboats (just walking around the main deck outside will tell you that) would probably do just fine..that, combined with a bad attitude and a modicum of luck, which is always a good thing to have, when stuff hits the fan. Sometimes you can do everything right, and still crap out. Welcome again!!!

It's idiotic that such a video can be considered sufficiently instructional. I take satisfaction in that in the event of a real emergency, a seat on a lifeboat will be very, very easy to get because so many people will go down with the ship having no clue what to do after watching that video.

And, the 4th or 5th time you have to watch it, it's a lot worse. And it doesn't get better from there.

Of course, the other video that they always show with it is similarly idiotic. But at least that video doesn't also tell you using hand sanitizer is in any way a substitute for washing them. :)

Only if watching in your cabin. Food and drinks are not permitted at the muster drill

Aww c'mon...what you're advocating actually makes sense...so therefore......

I haven't seen it. Can you bring our drink and popcorn? Happy

LOL .. actually saw this a few ago on Anthem. This was used for the muster drill in the theatre and was also on a loop on the ship TV on the one channel for such things. Had a good chuckle at it when it was shown for the muster drill but I am willing to bet more people paid attention than during the old style drill.
