What are your expectations of the steward?

First words out of my mouth to the steward are "I'm very low maintenance - don't make me crazy". Meaning do not come in and out 30 times a day to empty the trash or fluff my bed. I sleep whenever I am tired not at a set time. If I need something I will ask, otherwise assume I am fine. Fussing over me will not garner a bigger tip just annoy me...

We expect the steward to be polite and make up our room in a timely fashion. We request ice twice daily, clean towels and bath essentials replenished as needed. Otherwise a greeting when we pass him/her and attention to any additional request is appreciate. We can overlook something that he/she forgets unless it happens too many times. We always seem to get great stewards. I cannot remember a time when we had a problem with one.

Yep

Clean room, towel animals, ice bucket filled.

I'm old school cruising, so cabin steward should be in twice a day, make up service in the morning and turn down service at night. Any towels on the floor can be replaced and ice bucket to be filled twice a day. In the old days a chocolate on the pillow.

Pretty much... They have the do not disturb cards which are handy and double as please make room up.

We have never had an issue with the stewards. I speak to them before we start the cruise and explain what I want to happen. They are tipped well for the good, better, best service. The Stewards have never let me down and always rise to the challenge.

I expect my room to be made up before about 11:00 AM, and turned down during dinner.

Towel animals, visibility and a full ice bucket are bonuses, and are much appreciated.

I never had a bad steward. I like it when they clean the room and bathroom with new towels and towel animals. I like the twice a day service and ice to use. Never had a problem and never been asked to leave my cabin. I also tip the guy a few bucks ever so often when I see him. I understand and would not like it either if the steward played the hiding game. I expect him to be visible.

We are low maintenance. We just expect a clean room and towels. We've only had one bad steward, and that was our first cruise so we didn't know any better. Since then, we have always felt spoiled and pampered. It's so nice to be greeted with a friendly smile when we meet them in the hall.

It’s actually become something of a running joke with us that we get notoriously poor cabin stewards. We estimate that 90% of the time we get the worst steward on the ship. We were on our fifth cruise before we found out from another passenger that they could make the beds with queen sheets; they always just pushed the beds together so it was like being in two sleeping-bags next to each other. We’ve literally been yelled at to get out of our cabin. It’s common to return mid-afternoon to find our room still untouched even though we flipped the sign early morning to show we were away. If they can keep our ice bucket filled we call it a win.

Fortunately we get amazing service everywhere else on the ship, and on those rare occasions we get the awesome steward everyone else raves about, well that just makes our cruise that much better!
