The Weight of Clothing

If you are flying to a port, the weight of your luggage comes into play. I am amazed at the weight of different clothing and have begun looking at my wardrobe very differently. Especially shoes... and even pants that are extremely heavy. Do you consider the weight of a garment when packing?

Yes...I had to tell my husband not to pack too many jeans and shoes....he wears a size 12 shoe

This is the scary thought I think about with a cruise to Alaska... For all my cruises, its been tropical, and tanks, capris/shorts and flip flops weight little to nothing... But jeans, hoodies and boots rack up quickly

If flying, I will wear the heavy pair of shoes and pack the light sport shoes.

Yes, weight is a concern. Also airline luggage fees.

We have never flown to a cruise port so have not given much thought to this. We usually drive and have taken the train.

We do this. My slacks are lightweight and also my shirts. Shoes are heavy so we limit those.

The heaviest clothing we wear on the plane. Flying from northern Alberta, that's not hard to do. Monique likes the summer dresses and they are light. She brings sensible shoes as we love to dance.

I get better and better at not over packing. My issue is the heat makes you not able to wear some items more than once, then there is the dining room dress code and formal dinners - which I enjoy. Eventually I'll get it done to a science. I intend to keep cruising!

I try, but as I mentioned in the shoe and handbag thread, I am very bad at it. I had a very difficult time packing for the Alaskan cruise....

Yes, I often leave out outfits that have heavy beading or heavy jackets. I find that i can take more if I am careful about the weight of individual items.

I'm really careful about the weight of clothes and pack mix and match things. For shoes and sandals I also make sure that I can wear the same flats and 1 pair of heels with a few different things. I don't pack any jeans because they are way too heavy and don't need them on a Caribbean cruise.
