Sailing out of New York

Who has sailed out of New York? How was it getting from the airport to the port? Also any opinions of NCL Gem? Thinking of booking a Canada/New England cruise on Gem in September.

Thanks for sharing about that. Do you remember the name of the ship?

My parents sailed across the Pacific several times in the 50's and 60's in the ships without stabilizers (couldn't afford airfare). My mom still refuses to sail anymore due to those experiences.

We are wanting to do a cruise out of NYC as well. We love the city and think it would be amazing to watch that skyline come into the view.

Haven't been on the Gem but was just on Escape in Jan. Loved it.

Sailed out of Brooklyn on Caribbean Princess 10 day Canada New England last fall in October. Great cruise and ports. Short cab ride to port and fairly inexpensive. Fall colors were great

We cruised out of Brooklyn last fall on Canada New England cruise. Views when docked and sailing away were fabulous.

When you leave out of NYC, Pier 88, you sail past the Statue of Liberty, Elis Island, the old Cunard piers, and some other sights. You also get a great photo op when you sail under the Verrazano Bridge. You don't get that when you leave from Brooklyn.

I realize the weather in these shots wasn't the best. Taken in November 2015 on our Fall colors cruise tour and cruise. In the morning we hiked across the Brooklyn Bridge which was great, no more than got across bridge though and the rain started. I took a picture from the bridge, our ship, Caribbean Princess, on far left and the statute on the far right. In the late afternoon we sailed south, it was blowing and off and on rain.
