Who has sailed out of New York? How was it getting from the airport to the port? Also any opinions of NCL Gem? Thinking of booking a Canada/New England cruise on Gem in September.

Guess the post "Gods" were hungry, it ate my post.. ok trying again
We are most definitely looking at a northern cruise either for Alaska or Canada/New England. Add in I would like to take DW to NYC, that builds for a great reason to go via NYC. Thanks for the info Bennett!

If you're coming to NY, drop me an e mail and I'll give you my phone #. Nevermind, I'll just send it to you.
in your IN box
Excursions, well, Peggy's Cove is the the best, but the Bay of Fundy is a close 2nd.
The Bay of Fundy is amazing!
You should see the overflow. I am truly a smart a$$
Just went on the Gem out of NY to the islands. Great cruise , very nice ship and easy to navigate. We drove down from Mass. so can,t help with the airport. If you are on the starboard side on the way out you will be up close to the Lady. NE in September can be kind of cool especially on the water but it is also our most beautiful time of year. Never took the Canada cruise because we live so close. Go to O'Sheehan's. Open 24 hours serving good food and drinks. Great bar staff!! Buffet changes theme every night and has Indian dishes all of the time. Orchid Garden Asian Restaurant has good quality Asian food, you might need reservations depending on party size and time. We didn't do any specialty dining venues. Entertainment was very good Great comedian , juggling and fair to good music shows. Zack is the assistant entertainment director and is a great guy. Spinnaker Lounge is another great venue where they do a lot of the bingo and trivia. We watched our NE Patriots win the SuperBowl there. The de-boarding process goes pretty well. Pick an early time or keep your luggage. You can get it down to deck 7 before 8:00 am without worrying about the elevators. If you put it out the night before take the earliest departure time and you will sail right through.
Hope you enjoy your cruise. Say hello to Lerrine & Danilo at O'Sheehan's fmom Erin, Mark, Bumpa & Mija
Thanks for all the great input everyone. I do think I will make Gem my fall cruise.
Thanks very much Bak1061 for the great info. I'm even more interested in going now. (I agree with you about LaCucina, I thought it was subpar the time I went on NCL Pearl. Cagneys and the Brazilian BBQ were my favs).
Brazilian awe Moderno's, now I'm hungry!

We sailed out of NY many years ago In 1972 during a N'oreaster. We had a cab from the hotel to the port. All I remember is the horrible storm around Cape Hatteres. We were in a very small older ship without stabilizers. and could not go outside because of the raging wind. That was quite an experience! All there was to do is drink and eat. That was when the drinks were .75 each in cash, not credit card. Imagine that!! But we have continued to cruise in spite of it. We now prefer to go out of Fla because we do not lose a day or so due to colder weather.
