Re: Those Disembarkation Hints

Here's the best hint.

While everyone is standing in the elevator banks trying to go down, go off to the end and press the UP^ button. Chances are the car will be empty. Get on it !!!!! Then just go for the ride. The elevators are always full going down, but empty going up.

Actually, we do this all the time. We often ARE the only ones on the elevator. Also, we can’t just go down, because someone in an upper floor has called it. So, we go up in order to go down.

Which is why we pack lite. On a 7-day Caribbean, we have 1 carry-on size bag and a tote each. Simplifies air travel also - all carry-on and carry off.

Seems to me that all that would do is delay the elevators and make it longer for everyone. Are you saying you actually did this? There is zero chance you would be the only one on the elevator, so that means you would have some angry people. Plus, if you are already on the elevator, why not just go down?

Last cruise we decided not to walk off ... waited till our assigned time .. went to the meeting are and waited 15 min and then walked off the ship .. no muss no fuss and no lines. I think I like that option.

Yep, those pesky NYers...thought of everything first...as an ex-NYer I can attest to that,,,but i digress...we ALWAYS walk off, no trick to that, except you GOT to get down to the debarcation walk off line EARLIER than they say. never mattered how early we got there, there were ALWAYS folks ahead of us. couple cruises ago there were only about a dozen in front of us...I'd call that a smashing success...you can have great time wasting conversations, or not, as you choose... (ONE advantage to CCL, is that good ol FASTER TO THE FUN plan.. removes most of the angst debarking) ..as for the elevators, getting out VERY early helps there too, since most folks don't want to endure the pain of waking up THAT early. it only hurts for a little while. Wish I could sit around and have one of those leisurely breakfasts on debarcation day...just can't do it....

Oh yeh, if you plan to walk off...DON'T bring 37 pieces of luggage...very entertaining to watch it tho....

Unfortunately I one cruise we were disembarking in NY and everyone seemed to have caught on to this so elevators were full going up and then when they got to the bottom they took forever to empty as everyone was trying to get off at the same time.

Up to go down

Works great!

Unless you're on First Deck

When we have early flights, we drag our luggage off ourselves, early. It makes for a much faster disembarkation, and a shorter wait in the customs line.

However, we have not booked early flights since 2017, and ALWAYS (now) stay a day after the cruise in a hotel.

If you dont book close-in flights, this is the best piece of advice I can give you, because, it allows you to pack your bags however to make whatever fit, and not be concerned about keeping the weight below the Airline Maximum. You can re-pack in the hotel, instead of wasting precious cruise time to weigh your bags out!

We try not to make close air transport reservations so we're not rushed to get to the airport. Just hang out in the lounge and wait for the announcement.
