Looking for a good safe hotel in NYC/NJ

Hi everyone, we are planning our NE/Canada cruise and looking at hotels for the night before. Ideas are welcome! This will be in Sept. Any areas we need to stay away from? We are considering flying in the day before also yo NYC or Newark

Thanks

Hope you find something that suits your needs Brian. Let us know how it works out and where you end up choosing.

Thank you everyone for the ideas! This is the part I hate, going into an unknown area.

Danyl has to have a wheelchair or scooter and our man Kyle is mostly nonverbal so that creates more issues with him requiring constant supervision. Chris and Libby will be with us but still a lot of things to consider. We take her cpap with us, so that is more to carry even though it is not heavy.

Not whining, just wanted y'all to know why I am so picky.

you should browse booking or TripAdvisor for a better option

We took a cruise out of Manhattan a year and half ago and stayed at the Springhill Suites at Newark airport. We could drive there and the package we got allowed us to park there for 8 days and we took an Uber in and back from Manhattan. Not sure where your cruise goes out of but some hotels near that airport offers shuttles to Cape Liberty which RCCL sails from. We were very pleased with our stay there.

I grew up in NY. If i was taking a cruise out of NY and the cruise terminal was one of those Hudson River piers, JFK would be the last place i would want to fly into, let alone stay at. The trip from JFK to the other side of Manhattan or across the River is an expedition. During rush hour, it can take several, yes, several hours. Merely driving across Manhattan itself at ANY time is, well, something to be avoided. If you can, fly into Newark, and then heed the advice of some folks in here who have done it regularly, as to where to stay. Using sites like TRIPADVISOR and plugging in certain key works like "NY cruise terminal" etc, will get you an amazing amount of information. Staying at a motel without doing it may find you next door to a meth factory.
