Looking for a good safe hotel in NYC/NJ

Hi everyone, we are planning our NE/Canada cruise and looking at hotels for the night before. Ideas are welcome! This will be in Sept. Any areas we need to stay away from? We are considering flying in the day before also yo NYC or Newark

Thanks

Brian

As long as you’re on a carnival shuttle, you’ll be fine. Let’s face it, there will be others in the same boat as you.....bwahahaha......My question is, what time is your flight home ?

Country Inn And Suites (Bayonne) and the Hampton Inn (Ridgewood) are both great! They'll offer you free parking too for the duration of the cruise, free shuttle to the terminal, and free breakfast the next day.

Personally I would call back and beg Carnival's air travel division to change my flight to JFK or Newark as LaGuardia is undergoing major terminal and road construct until spring of 2022. The horror stories about it taking over an hour for arranged transport and shuttle drivers to find where the port authorities from different terminals at different times are making passengers wait and the long traffic delays the last 1-2 miles are forcing people to walk from the highway or road to the terminal to get to security in time for check-in are almost weekly on the NY area news reports. (Please do Google it to see for yourself) Unless flying in at least 24 hours before the cruise I would not recommend this airport.

Though both JFK and Newark have their own drawbacks, JFK commute time into Manhattan (sometimes 2 or more hours) and EWR tends to be more expensive, for day of cruise travel you might be better off as these airports have no major construction programs in the near future.

I have tried to answer twice but my posts have disappeared. Maybe because I sent it from my phone. So here is my last effort (you might get three similar replies):

You should be fine traveling the same day since you booked with Carnival. Let the worry run off your shoulders and enjoy your cruise.

For some reason my reply disappeared. So, you should be fine flying in the same day since you booked with Carnival.

Flying in the day of, is a bit nerve racking. However, since you booked with Carnival, you will be alright !

Hi everyone, here is what we have decided on...taking advantage of the carnival fly to the fun to fly to LGA with transfers to the ship. Now my only issue is we have to fly in that day...makes me nervous... Will be leaving Charlotte at 7 getting to LGA around 9 then transfer leaves at 1

Country Inn And Suites! They will let you park your car for the week, give you free shuttle to and from the terminal, and free breakfast, provided you stay there the night before.

If you’re interested, try one of the smaller area airports. Teterboro in NJ. Westchester County Airport in Purchase, NY is also very good. There is a hotel in White Plains 10 min from there. Then it’s a quick 30 min ride to the port.

I can see why you need to be "picky"...and fwiw, "picky" is safe..."picky" is good, and when you're spending your dough on something, virtually anything, "picky" is a necessity...GOOD LUCK!!!
