I'm scheduled for a TSA Precheck appointment having filled out the online app. The cost is $85 and because I have numerous cruises coming up and will be flying to and fro various ports, I thought it may be worth it. I fly out of LAS and our TSA screening here is outrageous ... as long as 1 to 2 hours. I used to "luck out" and be TSA PRE selected randomly and loved not having to remove shoes, jacket, laptop, etc. etc. Has anyone become TSA-PRE and is it worth it?

Has Anyone Paid to be TSA PRECHECK Approved and is it worth it?

For the most part, we usually get TSA PRE Check selected randomly. Perhaps we fly often. So, I have not purchased it. At some point I might consider it but not right now. I know that some airports don't honor it.
My wife got selected for the random checks on both sides of the last RT we took -- I'm still making fun of her.
(Of course she reminds me of the last time we flew foreign I got secondaried at every check )
We got Global Entry which includes TSA Pre-Check. It’s been well worth it for us, but we travel a lot for our jobs in addition to traveling for fun. I never got it once before signing up; Amy got it random a couple of times.
Getting random checks reminds me of the first time I actually used TSA pre-check. I got randomly selected... the first time! All I could keep saying is "why did I even bother doing this?". But, random checks are part of the deal. I didn't get too boisterous with security.

For some reason on my last roundtrip between San Antonio and Seattle, I (as well as my family) ended up as TSA Precheck Approved (None of us have ever applied). I started thinking that it seems like a good program if you fly much, but since I only fly about once every 5 years, it probably wouldn't be worth it.
When I got back from vacation, my employer had set it up to where I just needed to enter my information online and was automatically registered.
Wasn't that nice! I still think I have the worst luck... Never pre-selected for pre-check or get any breaks.

How did you end up being pre-check when you haven't gone through pre-check? That has never happened to us, but again, we do not fly enough.
There are a number of people randomly selected for pre-check regardless of whether they have applied. When I was flying once or twice a week from 2010-2015 to and from the midwest, I was pre-check approved about 75% of the time but never knew till I checked in if I made it or not. I had assumed back then it was because of the frequency I was flying.
It doesn't cost anything to sign up online at Identogo but when you go to the facility, it is $85.

You fill out an app online and then choose a location based on your zipcode . There are numerous appt times to choose from and easy to reschedule. My son and I applied at different times, chose different IDENTOGO locations, but as stated, when printing our boarding passes, all were TSA pre-checked.
Can't get link to work but site is identogo.com
Thanks Debbie
We have it and it is well worth it . We never had to make any appointments. We applied at an airport between flights.
