Has Anyone Paid to be TSA PRECHECK Approved and is it worth it?

I'm scheduled for a TSA Precheck appointment having filled out the online app. The cost is $85 and because I have numerous cruises coming up and will be flying to and fro various ports, I thought it may be worth it. I fly out of LAS and our TSA screening here is outrageous ... as long as 1 to 2 hours. I used to "luck out" and be TSA PRE selected randomly and loved not having to remove shoes, jacket, laptop, etc. etc. Has anyone become TSA-PRE and is it worth it?

We had it coming back from LAX /Hawaii Cruise and was astounded at how fast we bypassed a long line of people in regular security!

I'd love to have it for LAX or SEA. I started checking into it once but after reading this thread I'm definitely going for it. Thanks for the info everyone.

Absolutely DO IT!!! Saves a lot of time: no taking off jacket or shoes or belt, leave 3-1-1 in luggage. I've had it for four years; wouldn't/couldn't manage without it.

Now that's a visual. I am laughing and sharing with the DH.Big Smile

The airport that I fly out of (McCarran in Las Vegas) can be a proverbial nightmare getting through security! Not because security is so tight but because people leaving Vegas are often stupified from too much partying and slow the regular lines down enormously ....Put your cell phone in the basket dummy! No you can't take the 3 ft Eiffel Tower drink through the line!

We did! We did not always get Pre check and often one did but not the other. When I asked a TSA agent, I was told it is a random computer thing by the airlines. If you fly SW often, they might have you as preferred pre-check person in their system. You have been very lucky. We have noticed that there are more people in the pre-check lines than before and we have speculated that it is because more folks have gotten their "known traveler number". I hope your luck continues.

So when I posted this thread 8 months ago, I had an appt to pay the $85 for TSA Pre Ck but never followed through on it. Since then, I've flown at least a dozen flights and have been TSA Pre Ck almost every time except once.

Got TSA Pre Ck again this am when I checked in and now I wonder is it because I fly so much or because I had done the preliminary sign up??? Either way, it sure makes it worth it and sooooooooo much easier when traveling!

On the bright side, the random check doesn't really happen that often. Better luck on the rest of your travels.

I want to clarify this... When I mentioned being randomly selected, it was that regardless of already being approved and enrolled in TSA pre-check, I was randomly selected to undergo full screening... not the other way around. That's why I was a bit frustrated :/

Just printed boarding passes and both my son and I got TSA pre-check so my theory about being enrolled even though I have not completed it may be true ...
