Has Anyone Paid to be TSA PRECHECK Approved and is it worth it?

I'm scheduled for a TSA Precheck appointment having filled out the online app. The cost is $85 and because I have numerous cruises coming up and will be flying to and fro various ports, I thought it may be worth it.  I fly out of LAS and our TSA screening here is outrageous ... as long as 1 to 2 hours.  I used to "luck out" and be TSA PRE selected randomly and loved not having to remove shoes, jacket, laptop, etc. etc. Has anyone become TSA-PRE and is it worth it?

We have friends that have found it very worthwhile....so we our appointment on this Wednesday.  It will be nice to not hope for pre-check.

I got the original Global Entry fee paid by United Airlines as a frequent flyer perk. It included the TSA pre-check if I remember correctly.  Hubby applied for TSA pre-check and it has been well-worth it, especially if you are a frequent flyer.  I caution you though, A LOT more people have TSA pre-check these days. If you fly first class or are disabled, you get priority for going through security anyway. It may not be worth the extra $$ for a formal TSA approval.  For us, it makes a lot of difference.

I wondered about that .. it may become useless as the number of people who have it increases.

I don't have it because I don't fly as much, but my BF's father does because he travels for work.. Lets say I'm always jealous... We did an express disembark to get to the airport because our flight was earlier, and when we got to the airport and through security, he was already there... Not sure how that happened, but I guess our security was so backed up he jumped infront of us!

Interesting note: I was unable to keep my TSA appt so postponed it BUT I wound up being TSA pre-checked on all 4 flights which included 3 different airlines.

My son signed up online and he scheduled his appt for about a month away.  He too wound u[ being TSA pre-checked.

Sooooooooooo, wondering if it is a coincidence that neither of us has paid the $85 and are still TSA approved because we have appointments or ?????

Guess we'll find out when we fly to Lauderdale ....

You fill out an app online and then choose a location based on your zipcode .  There are numerous appt times to choose from and easy to reschedule. My son and I applied at different times, chose different IDENTOGO locations, but as stated, when printing our boarding passes, all were TSA pre-checked.

We have flown twice since getting our numbers and we both have had pre-check both times.  Often one of gets it and the other does not... so I think it works.

We have it and it is well worth it . We never had to make any appointments. We applied at an airport between flights.
