Future Cruise Deposit Princess: think twice


For over 5 weeks I have been trying to get my expired future cruise deposit (FCD) refunded, without any success. Numerous telephone calls and emails to both the US office and the UK office stay unanswered or are putt off with all kind of false promises. The two FCD's (for me and my wife) already expired 22 feb 2016 and by coincidence I discovered that I never got refunded.

I strongly believe that the whole future cruise program is a big scam and if you are not able to take another Princess cruise within the two years that the FCD is valid, you are screwed and never see your money back. In my case that is 200 EURO ($230).

I feel it my obligation to warn others for this doubtful practice of Princess Cruises.

OK, I see a couple of issues here. The first one is the deposit you made was time limited. When you did the booking originally did you know there was a time frame attached to the deposit. If you were aware and the Cruise line informed you ,then you have lost your deposit.

The other issue  I see is that  the cruise line could have met you at least half way with the deposit.

I recently had to change a few bookings and cancel booked cruises. I did not get off the phone until confirmation numbers were received in my inbox for the credit.

This is a case where the cruise line did not have to do anything and that is exactly what they are doing--Nothing. This loss is entirely on you for not cancelling within the allocated time frame. It's too bad they did not do anything to help.

The deposit was time limited, but the deposit was made with the term, and I quote from the FCD form: "The FCD will be automatically refunded if not applied to a new booking created within two years from the date of purchase."

 

Only on that term did I apply for the deposit in the first place. But they didn't and now I am going thru a lot of discomfort in order to get my money back. It is still my belief that Princess cruises deliberately calculates that people don't book again within the two years and forget all about the deposit.

Ok . You have the fine print to back you up. Get on the phone and insist they give you back the deposit. You did not mention the fine print in the original post and based on information provided you lost you money.

Now, with this new information You have a leg to stand on. What Princess does with this information will be another story. You may be right though, some folks don't go back for the deposit.

The US office tells me since the deposit was made in EUROs that I should contact the UK branch instead and only got their email-address (enquiry@princesscruises.co.uk). They haven't responded yet.... but I will persevere.

I have had great success getting billing issues resolved on their chat screen. Also send numerous emails to them ...good luck , keep trying.

This sound a bit complicated, but if they wont help you what can you do?

Thanks. I finally got a reply from them on their Twitter account and via DM I supplied him with my info. They told me that they would bring this to the UK office, so hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

I am so sorry that you had problems with this issue.  My sister who sails all the time with Princess said that the money would be refunded automatically by Princess if not used.  That didn't happen unfortunately.  She just purchased one on a recent cruise.  But, she has always used the future cruise deposit within the time frame.
