Now that oil prices have fallen over 50% for the last 15 months, do you expect to see cruise prices falling? When fuel prices were high, we had cruise lines adding fuel surcharges to the cost of a cruise. Should we now see a drop?

Do You Excpect to See Cruise Prices Falling?

We booked our cruise in October 2014 for March 2016. I have checked prices religiously and only got a $60.00 drop the whole 18 months :(
I do.
Agree that it should affect the price and perhaps it already has but with the increases in cruise prices, we never even noticed it.
It is hard to figure out since so many factors go into pricing. I'm going to ask when I take my next cruise in a couple of weeks if the lower cost of fuel has any impact on cruise prices.
Oh, and the cost of oil ? No effect at all. Auto-grats just went up on just about every line.
Yes, the gratuities did go up. Will we see better service? Actually service on HAL is always good.
Our cruise costed in Pounds sterling has just risen by £40, mainly I am guessing to keep in line with the American pricing on NCL and the Dollar/Pound exchange rate. It does amuse me though to discover that if prices go down, a lot of cruisers are straight onto the cruise line looking for a reduction or additional OBC. This of course does not happen in the UK as if you cancel and re-book, then your deposit is lost
Short answer, no. If I thought the US economy was approaching a recession then I would say yes. It is not. Actually, the other way around, therefore basic cruise charges will undoubtedly go up regardless of the retail price of gas and the wholesale price per barrel of crude oil diminishing further.

Cruise Economics 101: prices never drop. Any funds you think you will / should save, will be distributed elsewhere. Sales are not price drops. They are reflective of what you should have been paying in the first place, instead of the inflated price you actually paid. But, it makes you feel good.....about yourself, and the cruiseline. And, if you are rewarded with a refund in the form of OBC, welllllllll that's just a tease to get you to spend more than you probably would have if you didn't have any credit available. Example :
Cost of nice watch in ships gallery of shops - $ 400.00
No OBC ; it's a nice watch, but I already have several, and only one wrist.
$250 OBC ; it's a nice watch, and I have $250 credit, so it's only going to cost me $150. And you can never have too many watches. Oh miss !!!!!!! Could you please wrap this for me ? Thanks.
ok, first of all, the watch cost you $400. Not $150. The OBC is still your money. Second, at the very instant you spent your $250 OBC, your wife was spending hers on a lovely $500 Tanzanite ring about 30 feet from you. And it's the same $250 OBC. So now you've spent a total of $900. That's a perfect example of Cruise Ship Economics.

Love the logic... I spent a small fortune on jewelry on the last cruise. Did I get value for my dollar--Yes , Would I do it again--No. The cost of the cruise is all relative to what you the consumer is willing to pay. If no one booked the expensive suites for three or four cruises from a cruise line, then you would see the price drop, or the perks grow.
Supply and demand, buyers and sellers.
Thanks for the class at no cost.
I seriously doubt that the prices will drop. That money that was once used on the fuel needed will just be appropriated into a different fund. Hopefully, it will go towards better quality of food. Ive seen many people complain that the food seems to be slipping in standard.
Yes, food has been a recent issue with many passengers across many cruise lines.
We *should* but we probably won't. The tickets will sell for what people are willing to pay for them.
I am afraid that you are right.
For the time being, I don't see them dropping. I actually have seen them rise significantly from prices I have paid in recent years. That is not to say you cant find a good deal. I was able to find a very good deal on a cruise line that I have not sailed on in 16 years.
I have been with Carnival since then, except for one Celebrity, but found a great deal on NCL Escape for next year, and it beat out Carnival by 200.00 on a similar itin, and an older ship. Looking forward to a change anyway.
