Cruise Crud

Just got back from our cruise and it seems that A LOT of people have "cruise crud" A lot of people are posting in my cruise specific Facebook group that they have coughing, laryngitis etc. My non husband started hacking up a lung the last 2 days of the cruise and lost his voice a little. I now have laryngitis and occasional coughing up phlegm and occasional thick snot. I have seen people post about this on previous cruises but was always fortunate enough to not get it. Just to be clear, our cruise was FANTASTIC!!! If I could do it all over, I would.
How many of you have taken a cruise and wound up with "cruise crud".

Not crud as such but have returned with a slight cough and possibly some phlegm. Not surprising to catch something due to the numbers of people on board and the close quarters.

I think we were on the PEARL...she came down with those exact symptoms the day b4 the end of the cruise...spent the night coughing wheezing being totally miserable. We drive to N.O and its a long day but no biggie..I anticipated the trip back home from hell because of her symptoms...guess what...debarked, got back in the car, mebbe an hour later it was a miraculous cure....came to the conclusion the ships air filters were just full of crud...that was as good an explanation as any...never had any problems since...many different ships. now that Ive jinxed myself....

My family and I have a touch of that now. My dad is getting over it, I've been Miss Sneezy.

My mom ended up with a yeast infection in her lungs after her cruise in March.. it's airborne so she just happened to breathe in at the right time I guess. The docs are about 95% certain she got it on her cruise.

I remember coming home after our last one and being a bit sneezy but nothing too bad... I think the cure to your crud, is to book another cruise! Wink

Agree completely...100%...definitely....cures everything....

OH trust me, the next cruise will be booked soon. LOL
You have a great time on your fast approaching cruise.

Thank you!! Its been quite hard to focus at work knowing it's so soon.. I can not wait!!

Happens frequently particularly for my wife. Usually the last day of the cruise it will hit her. Then of course i get it from her a day or two after we get home. Best treatment for the throat and cough is liberal application of rum (neet) to the throat. It may not totally alleviate the symptoms but the patient tends not to really care ;)

I prefer to to blame it on the flight to the cruise (even if I know for certain otherwise). It is a smaller vessel and the air is constantly recirculated. But it has happened to both of us. “It’s a small price to pay” for the adventure.Wink

I have noticed more people with the Cruise Crud on longer Cruises. On a 4 night cruise I do not notice it, a bit on a 7 night cruise and much more on a 14 night cruise.
