Covid Mask Use

Do you think with the advent of vaccines for cruise employees and guests that masks use will be eliminated or reduced? If so at what level of inoculation?

Thats nice...good for you...for millions of OTHER people the MODERNA booster hasn't been authorized, so it IS a big deal.

Got my booster, Maderna. No big deal.

I even got a mask for my next cruise. It's black with the "Call" and "End Call" buttons like they have on a cell phone. It has a picture of a ship in white and it says "Cruise ship is calling....and I must go!"

I just read the RC blog post this afternoon, if you can't get the vaccine, you need to have a negative COVID PCR test 3 days prior to sailing.

Don't know how this apply to PCR test, I know that the shots will not trigger it. The only people we hang with have had their shots also. Our cruise is Hawaii 3/10/22. We will see, P & O has shots mandatory. Knowing what I know about the CDC they will require all parties to have shots to sail.

I tend to agree with your assessment. I suspect many will continue with masks ... just because. To some it does offer a feeling of safety or a buffer zone per say.

Interesting...you mean if you've had the shot(s) you don't need a PCR test? and how far BEFORE the cruise is that supposed to be done? We know that both shots are required, and about 10-14 days after for the most effect...no mention of any of that? I suspect theres going to be some adjustments made and it'll get complicated....asking your travel consultant or travel agent (if you have one) to interpret company policy probably won't help...if it just so happens the port personnel have a different understanding....glad we aren't going till NOV, let them sort out the bugs (IF it happens)...and you KNOW nobody will have any kind of a nationwide verifiable system in place in the foreseeable future ....so we're back to the shot cards again....

But at least theres movement towards cruising again.....

I just got emails from RC and Celebrity, so I assume the rules will be the same since they're owned by the same company. RC is requiring mask use on their ships. Celebrity and RC are requiring proof of vaccination, and Celebrity is requiring negative PCR tests for anyone, including kids, who can't take the vaccine.

To the original question of “mask use eliminated or reduced?” I’ve worked in major theme parks and tourist destinations for the last 30 years. Since the time mask use became commonplace in Asia (1997-ish?), I don’t think I’ve gone a single day at work without seeing someone wearing a mask.

I’m sure the original question was in reference to mandatory mask use, but I think we’ll see voluntary mask use much more often now. We don’t know anything about the health concerns of others or their loved ones. If mask use allows them to travel and experience the world in more comfort, I’m all for it!
