Camera equipment vs phone

We have camera equipment from the very expensive dslr’s, mirror less cameras, GoPro and several pocket cameras. As we travel more after retirement. I find myself still absolutely in love with photography just not so much in love with packing a bunch of equipment. I find I’m spending more time with a higher end pocket camera and my phone. While cruising I’m finding more folks at the face of a beautiful glacier with a phone or tablet.

So the question is do you travel with the high end stuff or rely on your phone?

As I too get more mature in age, I still take my sony camera (good real zoom) and my phone as a backup for uploaded to the internet. I do find I still use the camera for the 'better' shots, but it now fits in my pocket...

I got tiered of carrying around the camera bag and equipment (I loved my old Minolta X700 with a set of filters and multiple lenses, tripod and strobe).

On one trip a friend of mine that is a pro photographer had a small pocket camera with him, the pics came out excellent so I went and bought one of those cameras when I saw it at Costco. One my trip to Venice my brother did a lot of research into the pocket cameras and bought one. During the trip he saw the photos that I could get that he could not (before the trip I told him what to buy but he siad the one he got was better). After the trip he returned the one he bought and got one like mine, further research showed the one I had was the best for use in low lighting when you can not use a flash)

Since I do not have a high end phone it is not great for photo's. It was free and you get what you pay for.

My husband is really interested in photography and still carries a high end camera with various lenses snd stuff. I’m just thankful he doesn’t use film ‘cause he’d likely be spending the equivalent of a cruise just to process and print the photos afterwards. Wink

Since I have misplaced (lost) my camera, right now I only have my phone. At least my phone was upgraded in April.Wink
