The past year has brought many significant things to the world of cruising. We’ve seen the debut of highly-anticipated new ship classes, including Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class and Princess Cruises’ Sphere Class. There have also been several launches in the world of cruise line private destinations, such as Disney Cruise Line’s new destination, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera, as well as the opening of the adults-only space Hideaway Beach on Perfect Day at CocoCay. 2025 is shaping up to be even more exciting, with the launch of several ships, new homeports for cruise lines, and the opening of even more cruise line private destinations. Following are the top ten reasons we’re excited about cruising for 2025.

1. Debut of Carnival Cruise Line’s Celebration Key

Celebration Key, Carnival Cruise Line’s new private destination on Grand Bahama Island, is slated to open in July 2025. Positioned on the south part of the island, Celebration Key will offer fun for guests of all ages with a mile-long beach, authentic Bahamian shopping and dining, and beach excursions. The destination will have many ways for guests to spend their day with five distinct portals: Paradise Plaza, Pearl Cove Beach Club, Starfish Lagoon, Lokono Cove, and Calypso Lagoon

Carnival ships will dock at an adjacent cruise pier to Celebration Key. The pier can accommodate up to two Excel-class vessels simultaneously and is slated to be operational by 2026.

Celebration Key is set to open next summer, and over 400 cruises visiting the island are available to book now.

4. More Short Cruises

Cruise lines have recognized an increased demand by today’s travelers for quick short getaway cruises, typically 6 nights or less. These sailings are a great way to break away from one’s regular routine for a short vacation with a less expensive price tag and fewer days away from home.

Royal Caribbean is among the lines offering more short cruise options for 2025, with eight ships sailing short voyages from Florida, Texas, and California. These cruises will depart on weekends and midweek dates. Depending on the voyage, stops include ports in Mexico and the Bahamas, with several options for visiting the line’s own PerfectDay at CocoCay.

Sister brand, Celebrity Cruises will also offer new short getaway sailings on two ships beginning in 2025. Solstice Class Celebrity Reflection will sail year-round 3- and 4-night cruises departing from Fort Lauderdale, with calls at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Celebrity Summit will sail from Fort Lauderdale in 2025, with four- and five-night cruises calling on Key West, Cozumel, or Perfect Day at CocoCay.
