This was my first cruise through the Panama Canal and my first cruise on the Zuiderdam.We left out of San Diego and got off the ship in Ft. Lauderdale , this was a 17 day cruise. We had good weather and smooth sailing , I want to do it again

loved the staff, the ship was a very good size for us, great food.

This sure wasn't the Amsterdam. The difference was day and night. On the Amsterdam the crew almost tripped over themselve to help. On the Zuiderdam we were lucky to get our cabin cleaned and bed made by 1700 hours.

It was an older ship, stately with lost of quality amenities. It was very clean and it had been updated some with new carpets. It looked well care for in all area's of the common area's.

Our first cruise with Holland American was beyond our expectations in both service and friendliness of the crew. We had open seating and particularly enjopyed meeting more of the waiting staff. The quality and presentation of food was excellent, the variety and quality of entertainment was superb. The usual high quality of serivce by Cruises only in all of our pre-planning was again present on this trip.

It was total relaxation with plenty of activities to learn and have fun. The service in the main dining room was the best and most attentive we have ever experienced. Choice of menus was excellent and it is always nice to try new things. We had a very seasoned and well-trained staff who know what customer service is about. Accolades to all.

the zuiterdam , holland america lines. a clean ship with a very friendly crew. it didn't take long for them to be calling you by your first name. with all the people aboard you wonder how they do it. 10 days is a long time to be at sea,but the schedules of events try to keep you busy..

If you want excitement and nightlife this isn't for you. If you are looking for good service, good food, a clean nice environment with older people it's perfect. We knew that the line was bit older and a bit more upscale (didn't see the upscale element), but just didn't realize that a Holland America (especially Panama 10 day cruise) would be this. Overall though, it was a really nice trip!

We have cruised several times on other cruise lines so this was our first time with Holland America. Since it was supposed to be "a step above" some of the others, we were looking for a little bit better experience. We did have a great cruise, but did not find that it was any better or worse than other cruises. The stateroom was a little larger, but that could have been just the ship and can't speak to all of the Holland America ships. Also, there were a few more minor mistakes than on the other ships we have sailed (i.e. our cabin was missed a couple time when daily newsletters were delivered and we had to ask for it, there was no bottled water in our room when we sailed, etc.). We did feel, however, that the evening shows were excellent and having chats sessions during the cruise with the people in the shows was interesting. The food was excellent and we liked the fact that the same foods were served in the buffet (plus more) as in the dining room so that if you chose the buffet on formal nights you didn't feel like you were missing something.

It was very well maintained, cleaned, and service personnel were diligent and unfailingly pleasant.

Cruise ship was ok....our "complaints" are with the staff who failed in doing their job. We booked a Verandah room (with a balcony) aboard the Holland America ship Zuiderdam. When we booked our cruise (4 months ahead of sail date) the salesperson FAILED to tell us that our room (4001) was one of the 2 WORST Verandah rooms (4001 and 4002) on the ship. We had a steel wall below the balcony railing (instead of plexiglass that we could see thru when sitting on the balcony), the balcony was rounded on one side to form into the bow of the ship, and the forward side of the balcony had no privacy wall ... making for an extremely windy experience sitting on the balcony and making it possible for any crew member to look into our room if we had the curtains open! When we asked for a room change (2 weeks before our cruise) we were told by that there were no rooms available. We learned upon arrival on the ship that others had received room upgrades THE NIGHT BEFORE SAILING!!!! Also, the salesman failed to advise that our room had ONLY a shower instead of a shower/tub combination in the bathroom, as advertised in the description of Verandah rooms. Our biggest complaint is that we paid the SAME price as the rest of the guests in Verandah rooms...and we got sub-standard quality in our room. Holland America sales staff advised us that personnel SHOULD BE WELL VERSED on all aspects of the accommodations aboard the Zuiderdam, and should have advised us AT THE TIME OF BOOKING of the inferior qualities of this Verandah stateroom over others on the ship. Unless you know how to ask ALL of the right questions, we would NOT recommend dealing with sales staff if you want a pleasant experience in your next cruise.

WELL SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE AND OVERALL ENJOYED THE CRUISE. ONLY COMPLAINTS WE COULD NOT SEE IN THE CUPBOARD WHERE THE SAFE WAS STORED WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND AN AIR FRESHENER IN THE TOILET WOULD BE NICE!

Very nice ship. Duty free stores werent so hot...bigger stores on other ships. Our cabin was great, even tho it was too cold and stormy/windy to use the verandah, we still enjoyed it. The food was awesome, wherever we went. Really liked no reservation dining. Entertainment was good.

Cruise great, prearranged items were not done properly. Had to call Holland America to get tickets etc.

Food was great, entertainment good, Great Service, but we did encounter some sickness last three days that ship would not allow guests to touch anything. They gave us great service in Lido resturant. We had problems with our prearranged dining prefference, and prearranged On Board Credits. Overall, best we have ever been on.
