Review summary

Some of our favourite things about this cruise was the service, food, weather, were amazing. The aft pool was 85° and the midship pool was 76° hot tubs were generally between 102 and 104°. And there is a co-Ed sauna located midship on the ninth floor and it was the nicest sauna that I’ve ever experienced on any of my cruises!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The Dining Room

4 out of 5

We ate at the MDR for about 7 out of our 14 days on board. Food was very good usually it was served hot enough. My only complaint was I found the service was slow. Example for the two of us it would still take almost 2 hours to complete your meal

Lido Market

5 out of 5

The lido market food never disappointed us. Always fantastic. It was so good that my parents that were travelling with us only dinned at the MDR once within the 14 days (back-to-back cruise)

Dive-In

4 out of 5

I tried the hamburger, chicken sandwich, hotdog and french fries here. All were very good.

24-Hour In-Room Dining

5 out of 5

We ordered room service A few times for breakfast and one time for lunch. One breakfast we ordered a full complete hot breakfast and it was awesome

Onboard Activities

Aft Pool

4 out of 5

The aft Seaview pool was a nice size pool. It was heated approximately 85°. There was no stairs you had to use two ladders. Our only concern was that the pool wasn’t clean often enough and a lot of algae would form on the stairs which caused it to become a slip hazard. And unfortunately after complaining on multiple occasions to multiple different staff members and guest services nothing was ever done about it. Very disappointing

Entertainment

World Stage

We enjoyed the step one dancers. I believe they performed three times. And they also had Chris bannister perform guitarist. And he was fantastic

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service and staff on the Holland America line has to be the best on the open waters! My mother uses the assistance of a wheelchair 90% of the time and the staff in the Lido market always went out of the way to make sure that her and my father were taken care of 100% of the time. Maybe it’s the size of the ship compared to other ships but we found that many many workers would recognize us and address us by name

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I think the ship design is very easy to navigate. Obviously you can see some wear and tear on the ship considering it’s 21 years old but it’s still in great shape. I’d like the art displayed throughout the ship. And we really liked all the fresh flowers throughout the ship

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This room is located all the way forward on port side. It’s a very large interior room. this room had multiple USB ports and 110 V outlets. Also had a curtain that separates the bathroom and the hallway

Ports of call

Bar Harbor, Maine

3 out of 5
Unfortunately the fog was so thick that our disembarkation was postponed a few hours. But we were able to eventually get off the ship and explore the town

Halifax, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
Very nice city we enjoyed a two hour walk in downtown Halifax and Halifax harbor. We weren’t able to explore the citadel that I really wanted to do but hopefully next time

Sydney, Nova Scotia

I have been to Sydney Cape Breton in the past during a land trip. This port was definitely not a good choice. I would’ve chosen the Northside is Sydney instead

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

5 out of 5
Very nice port. This was our favourite port. We enjoyed a nice horse and carriage ride throughout the town. The handler would explain a lot of the historical points of town

Quebec City, Quebec

4 out of 5
Very historic architecture. Be prepared to walk a lot.

Cruise Gulf Of St. Lawrence
